Hi: Not a peep from anyone, even to tell me I am asking to much money. I would appreciate any input from this group which has been so helpful in the past. Mel

Since I have a '98, I won't say you're asking too much, in the event I may need to sell mine. I will also say that sometimes weekends can be slow on the forum.

My take on the boat market goes this way... which may be at the root of some of the variations in selling success of boats on this forum.

Selling a boat is an enterprise that seeks two types of people. First are the ones in a heated rush to fulfill a longing to be on the water or to have a bigger boat, immediately... exactly during the season when the weather is right for boating. Second are the logical buyers who attempt to buy during the time of year when boats MIGHT slip a little in price due to various boat market fluctuations. They are willing to delay gratification for the sake of their family finances. These two types may vary on their reasons, but the emotions are the same.

Since it appears you may be more in the latter group, it's going to be difficult to find someone in the former group at this time of year. As you may know, the ones in the more logical group move a little slower, especially if they perceive a price they may not want to pay. Just picture a bunch of guys out here drooling over your boat, just waiting for you to drop the price a little... or a little more... because of a dominant "cheapskate gene", which is dominant on this forum.

You may also find that your boat, like mine, isn't as desirable for this group of more mature boaters. They seem to prefer a more enclosed form of boating for various reasons. I may join them in that interest and seek some help with finding and installing a handicapped ramp for my boat so I can use it more easily and often.

My best advice? Post pictures... if you have problems doing that... request assistance... once the pictures are up talk maintenance and details about equipment... then, indicate a willingness to drop your price... then, just be patient. There is someone out there who wants your boat so bad, he can taste it. He will find you if you can hold on till then.

Good luck with the sale... wish I could help, but I'm up to my ears in Shamrock/s.

ET say's: My best advice? Post pictures...

Why is the concept of including pictures so difficult to grasp to foster the sale of one's boat?

Thanks for the replies. I have taken the digital pictures and have them in my computer. Unfortunately my pictures have too many pixels and I haven't been able to crop them and then upload the cropped pictures. I will get it figured out but in the meantime I can e-mail to anyone with all the pixels. It is not the end of the world that no one wants to buy now, but if someone is near Sarasota there is a good deal to be had now and use it for the rest of the winter season. I just don't know what price that is. Mel

No problem, Mel... if you need some help with the pix, email 'em to me. I just reapportioned my Mac mail account and have some more server space. Apple also upgraded me to 250 megs of total space as the new standard starter size. If you email them, send full size images. I can handle them. The place to send them is; easytimes@mac.com don't bother with the email link at the bottom for this purpose.

Good luck with being patient.

Hi: Fot those who have inquired and I held off, The GPS/ radar unit is now reinstalled. I had borrowed it for my new boat while the new boats unit was upgraded. The original unit now back on the boat has the radar overlay on the GPS. screen. This means that you can see the theoretical and the actual at the same time. e.g. you see on the GPS where the object is supposed to be and it is shown in purple by the radar at the same time. For fisherman in the south, this allows you to see an anchored boat a mile away, put the radar curser on him and lock his coordinates into the GPS.So much for SECRET NUMBERS.The radar will also lock onto the target and when he moves it will follow him to the next spot and you can do the same thing. All you have to do is be sure that you know the boat you are dealing with. It doesn't take long in the Florida Gulf. This stuff is so advanced it is like bombing a smokestack with smart bombs. This is a great boat which I am offering for a lot less than it is worth in my opinion and a lot less that I have into it. BUT I love my Cabo Mel

Len: Thanks for the response. I am not discouraged at all. I have been postponing people because I wanted to use the GPS unit on my new boat until the upgraded model came.I intend to bring my Cabo up north for the summer and maybe won't be able to bring it back, so if I dont sell the Shamrock the world will not end. I own the dry-slip where it is stored. It is a great boat for someone who would appeciate it. The price is a lot less than I have into it ,and it is set up for the kind of fishing we do here in Florida. I will give you a call soon. Maybe you want to go fishing on the new boat. Mel

HI: 35FT.express with hardtop, no tower. ( I am getting too old to climb a tower). Very low hours on Cat 420s. I have been fooling around with boats for many, many years and this is the most fantastic machine. Everything is super built and installed and exactly where it should be. There are a lot around but most have a lot of hours. Many are charter boats. It sucks up the fuel but does it in style. Thanks for the post. Mel

Right now here in Puerto Rico the gasoline is $2.16 per gallon and the station manager told me that in May its going to be $2.56 per gallon. Thank god my boat is diesel.

Mel
04-07-2005, 02:30 PM
I am glad that you have that diesel as I have had many diesel boats. The thing to remember is this. A brand new gm 325 hp fwc engine installed is about 7500-8000. The difference in the price for the diesel pays for a lot of gas. Good luck Mel

Hi : Sorry for the delay in answering. I haven't been on this site for a while. Didn't know someone was interested. My Cabo is a 35 express. I love it. I have put on over 300 hours since I got it in Jan. (90 hrs to get it up north) I am starting back to Florida in the next few weeks to fulfill a longtime dream. I always had sailboats which drew too much water for the intracoastal. She only had 96 hrs when I bought her and at last look has 407. Too bad the price of fuel has gone up so high. Thanks for asking. Mel

Mel, nice rig. One of my favorites. I love how they run. I recently sold a boat very similar to yours for 30. So if you can be patient, it will pay off.
It's all in how badly you want to see her gone. However, and I don't mean to contradict myself, it seems that w/ the internet buyers' are more educated than ever before. 90% of buyers have done their homework, they know what else is out there, so to sell the boat quickly, you have to be the cheapest. Period. Good luck.
