I am looking to buy a 26’ Shamrock. Prefer a later model in decent condition and would consider an Open or a Mackinaw. I am located on Alligator Point, Florida, about 50 miles south of Tallahassee and don’t want to go any further than I have to, but know I will probably have to drive a ways.

I have posted before and thought I had a deal to buy a 2000 260 Express but after getting a survey, waiting a month for repair work, and then driving 400 miles cashier check in hand fully expecting to be pulling the boat home the deal has fallen through. In part I did not like the handling of the Express (I know I was warned by wise folks on this website), but I had been seriously mislead by the dealer as to the boat’s condition and what was being fixed. Oh well, I have not given up and think there is a boat out there for me. So if you think you have it please let me know.

Thanks,

Too bad you don't want a 220. I would send you to look at Len's.

Mel has a 260 Open. Have you checked his out?

It's a damn fine looking rig. But that's just my opinion. I posted his pictures for him, and caught myself admiring it.

Thanks, I do want a 26. I have spoken to Mel and am giving his boat thought. Just wanted to cast my net a bit before biting again.

thanks,

I also liked Mel's ride a lot.

Rob,
My 1984 26' Cuddy looks like the same hull as what Mel's 26' open is. In the Keys this past summer, I could not have been happier with the handling of the boat on the open and oftentimes very rough waters of the Atlantic. The 26' feet of length was as comfortable as I could have wanted in a trailerable boat. With the open being center console and the helm being further aft, I would imagine the ride would be even smoother in the rough stuff. My only complaint on this hull is the wet ride in quartering and head winds if it's rough. Isenglass worked sufficiently for me in those conditions. Overall I was happy with the boat.....if that helps for your handling question on the older styled 26' hulls. Ask Lep, Thru Tackin', No Tacks, et al as I believe they all have the 26'(actually 25'9" hulls)..... I think they will attest to their overall liking of the handling...

FWIW.....and good luck with your shopping! Stay the course and don't give up!
