View Full Version : 26 Pilot house 1987
New member here.
I operate TowBoatUS in Beaufort, NC. I bought this boat from TowBoat Delaware River last spring. We took the boat completely apart in our shop and re- did it. It has a 210 Cummins w/ 300 hrs on a rebuild. We added a second control station, new dual racor filter system, 2 VHFs, Garmin 182C GPS Plotter, Depth Sounder, and many other extras. The boat is painted red w/ TowBoat graphics (which I will remove). It is in excellent condition, starts w/out glowplugs and runs great. We have made the decision to go to all Zodiac RIBs so this boat will go. I have over $22,000 in it. Offers?????

Is that a commercial pilothouse or standard pilothouse? What is the headroom?

Also....what gear does it have in it? Is a trolling valve available for that gear?

It comes with a trailer!! If everything checks out okay with the survey (surveyor could email/fax his report to you) and you are satisfied with the selling price/agreement reach with the seller, why not drive out there, sea trial it, hook it up and tow it back? Come on, add some inventory here on the west coast for us.
You'll need a towing vehicle and about 4 days off from work (that's if you leave before the weekend, which will give you 6 days total).
(if I was to do it all over again, I would have..............)

Ooo Damon,
You're tough. In '94 we did a nearly straight drive back from San Diego to Jacksonville, to pick up my younger son at the airport. A complicated story, to be sure.
Took us 44 hours of straight driving time, at non-crazy speeds. Towing a large load like that would make it a little more challenging, especially over the hills and mountains... and that's not counting the sea trial time. Tight schedule, but doable, as long as the sea trial goes off on time, and no mistakes are made driving. Sounds like something I might even try.

Ya, I think you're right, it would be tough. He'll need to take off a full work week.
If I haven't dumped so much money into my gas PH, I would probably grab my dad's Dodge cummins diesel truck, drive out there, purchase the boat, and tow it back as long as everything first check out okay with the boat and trailer. I would then put my gas powered PH on the market.
I know that MKP (post above) is in the market for a diesel powered PH. Knowing that these PHs with the cummins rarely come on the market, especially on the West coast (I've seen two of them come on the market in the last 4 years here on the west coast; one being in the Newport Beach area and the other in Washington State), it may be worth it for him to seriously look into this boat. If I didn't have mine, I would be on the phone right now ordering a survey and hiring a diesel mechanic to check out the boat.
I REALLY want something with a greater range (at least a 350+ total mile range). One way I may accomplish this with my gas powered PH is to add the third 52 gallon tank in the below the deck storage compartment at the bow, which was optional for these boats back then. This will then give me around a 335 mile range.
That 26 PH cummins Shamrock looks like a fun boat!!
