I haven't looked at the calendar to confirm a free wknd is available at our lake house...but..just wanted to throw out to see how many peeps would be initerested in getting together @ Lake Gaston for a "muck". Yup...a Shamrock muck no doubt. I know Rich is in (Squid Row), but how many others? Should be some good stripers running at that time of year.

Yessssir! I will do my best to be there, with the Squid Row II in tow and umbrella rigs for the stripers.

Gavin,

If all works out, I'd love to come up and join you all. Still way too early to tell what kind of schedule I might be up against, but will keep this at the top of the list for the time being.

Might be able to swing it, coupled with a visit with a friend in Durham. Need to consult my social sec'y (wife). It's a bit of a haul from Phila., but doable.

I'd love to come down, never been to NC, finally got a good excuse. Can I "boat ho" along with someone for some fishing?

How far would it be by water from Cambridge, MD.?
Sounds interesting. Maybe we could get a group together?

How decided is the 27/28th weekend? Just curious as I've got some other vacation to take in late Aug and am trying to work it around the "muck".

I just threw it out there. The old spaghetti test so to speak. Throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.

Suggestions? Gavin will have to ultimately decide since it is his house.. I guess :D

Ok, like you said...let's see what works for Gavin.

For me personally, the 20th/21st would be best. Might be worth picking a couple weekends and polling those interested to see what weekend would garner the best turnout....that's assuming there's a couple weekends available of course.

Either way, we'll definetly make an effort to come down, last year was a great time. :D

Gavin, do you have GPS coords on your house (not the lake itself, that I can find  ). If you do, I can plot it on a fairly detailed road map of the area and post it as the shindig time gets close. I hope my spousal unit doesn't come up with something hokey to interfere with this thing, I'd really like to get down there.

Any others for the 20/21? That actually works better for me as well.

Aug 20/21 looks OK for me ATM. It's far enough away from Labor Day weekend to be comfortable.

So...the 20/21st. Who's in?

Kurt,
I will give you GPS coordinates after this holiday wknd. Here's the mapquest location:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=191+North+Brown+Road&city=Littleton&state=NC&zipcode=

The star is a bit off. If you look due W of the red star, you will see a small peninsula sticking out into the creek. The creek is Pretty Creek, which is right off the main lake. My dock is the only one on the SW side of that peninsula. We have almost that whole cove to ourselves. I do have one neighbor to the SW of that cove, but we basically have that whole area/cove to slip boats if necessary. I can tie up at least two possibly three boats to my dock. We can anchor others in the cove if necessary.
Let me know folks! Gavin

If the powers that be don't pee on my (your) party by then, I'll be there.

How're these #'s (approx.):

For the road in front of your address: N36° 29.93', W77° 53.58'

For the dock: N36° 29.91', W77° 53.77'

(Just playing with the proggy) :)

Sounds like a great time. Count me in. It is my understanding that the date in mind at present is Aug. 20 (sat)? To Gavin and Rich, thank you for the kind welcome. I am excited to meet you all. This may be a little early to ask but what should we expect to bring. I this thing goes I would like to contribute food, drink or whatever might be needed.

House coordinates are as follows: N 36 degrees 29.910'
W 77 degrees 53.736'

Looks like the 20th it is. I have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath double wide, with one pull-out couch and two non-pullout couches. If you feel like roughing it, I have a 20' x 12' screened in porch facin' da wata. I have one, maybe 2 blow-up sleepers. I have one double bunk-bed with another single in one room, and a double bed with a single in the other. You guys can fight it out. Please let me know if your spouses will be coming and we can reserve you the bigger room. They are welcome. Wally-World is about 20 minutes away in Roanoke Rapids. A coupla chain restaurants in town. Not much in Littleton, but they do have Granpa's restaurant that I have never had the pleasure of giving my $. ABC store & a small grocery store in Littleton. Fast food in Littleton is a Hardee's. Don't blink your eyes. We have several campgrounds close by. Please hit this web page for most everything around: http://www.lgado.com
Camp Willow Run is very close and has cabins. They have pretty much all of the facilities you will need. They are an RV place too, so those of you that might be coming in an RV, that's your best bet.
Middleburg Steak house is about 25 minutes away, and simply has THE best beef around. Great family run place that is close to I85. We are located on the NC side of the lake, about 10 minutes from Littleton, NC.
Eaton's Ferry marina is the biggest boating related store, and that's about 20 minutes drive by both car and vessel.
Our home is called Ma Moura, named after my grandmother's old place up on the Chesapeake bay in Mathews, VA. Miss that place something fierce. Ma Moura means, "House full of love, under God's blessings"

I need a head count so I will have an idea of who's coming please. Hound dawgs are welcome, just as long as they get along with other dawgs. They will be in seventh heaven. I have room for a camper/trailer. Boat ramp is within walking distance of the house. This should be a good time. Cameras are encouraged to show all of our friends on the board what good times we had, and I promise GD I will NOT feed fish to your dawg! The best to all, and I REALLY want to see this 17 footer! Lookin' fwd to it. I have 3 grills, 2 gas & 1 large charcoal. Bring what you would like to eat & drink. Bring coolers to keep your food cold. I have several large ones, so we should be good there, including a 186qt monster SSI. We'll put whoever mis-behaves in that one. Should be a very relaxing time. I have the perfect hammock, and you'll see why when ya get there. It's awesome! :D
All the best, and a very safe trip down or up. Gavin

Gavin,

Melissa, myself, and the dawg are planning on coming. Unless the humidity is miserable I plan on sleeping on the boat. Got a full enclosure with screens for just that purpose. I won't speak for Melissa, she may like a bed/couch, but the dog can stay on the boat with me.

We'll probably have tuna steaks to bring (assuming I don't eat em' all by then  ), beers, plently of tackle (including umbrella rigs), a tube, cameras, coolers, and whatever else ya need...oh yeah, and the boat.

I to am anxious to see the 17 footer in person!

Count me in.

I'll be sleeping on the boat and bringing tuna steaks (out of wahoo this year, my apologies to the dawg LOL) , cold beverages and of course all the necessary tackle to put a few linesiders on the grill.

Looking forward to it!

It looks about 95% for my wife and I for that weekend (some minor scheduling to work out yet).

Can bring along a tent, air matresses and sleeping bags if there's room in your "back yard" to pitch it (your call).

I am working on the map(s) and will post a link to them (for D/L) in a day or so.

Here's an aerial shot of Gavin's cove (and maybe his house?). I believe ths was taken around 1993:

Folks,
It is with a very heavy heart that I must ask that we postpone this event until later in the year. My mother is very sick, and she is not recovering very well in her "re-hab" facility. She has had to increase her oxygen supply again, and she's not gaining any weight. She was told recently that she only has 30-60 days left to live. I think they're wrong, but..She is stuck at 82lbs, and just can't seem to gain anymore. She eats everything they give her, but it just isn't helping. I think she is worrying what few pounds she gains right off. It sickens me, and has really put me in a foul mood these last few days to see her like this. I just wish I could do more for her. Let's try to put this out for a month. I was hoping we could all get in both some swimming time and feeshin' time, and I am truly sorry to have to say this isn't going to work as a Shammy weekend.

My mom desperately wants to come back up to the lake for one last weekend there. She truly wants to make it up there, so this is one wish I intend to fulfill. She gets released from re-hab on the 19th, and I think this will be the last time for her to have enough strength to get away from her medical care long enough to make it happen. She tried twice this year, but never found the strength to do it, or other events kept her away. She just wants to relax in the hammock, and swim by the dock, and hopefully get out for another boat ride.
Could we try to do this shortly after the labor day weekend?
My apologies to all who had made plans, but fear not, we WILL make this happen, and SOON!
Gavin

Gavin, I'm really sorry to hear about your Mom's condition. I hope that her desire to be with the family at the lake house gives her the strength to make the time you have together truly enjoyable, and a lasting memory.

Please, no apologies about the cancellation. We all will have plenty more opportunities. Make the most of the time with your Mom and family.

Best wishes,

Josh

Gavin:

My wife's and my thoughts and prayers are with you through this. We experienced a similar, unsure vigil with my mother five years ago.

Family and loved ones come first, you need unencumbered time with your mother and no apology is warranted. We'll (us FTC'ers) spend time together with you when the circumstance is better.

Take care,

Kurt
