I can't find any pricing for a cummins diesel. I am going to do a repower on my 26' stalker and would like to consider a diesel for the job. From reading posts in here it seams for part and service cummins is the way to go but before i go to far I like to get a ball park idea of what a diesel that is comparable to the 5.7 cursader gas is going to set me back so i can see if it's in my buget.

Not sure if anyone here has tried one or not but John Deer has a Marine Diesel Line. I ran a tug that had 2 of the 210HPs in it and they were great. In the three years that I ran the boat we never had any problems with them. We even ran it out of fuel more than once :? and had no problems getting it started again. Added fuel and turned them over and they started.

Find any Cummins distributor. From what I've been told you can get a REAL marine Cummins for 10-13k

John Deere diesels are extraordinary engines. However, they are low rpm engines requiring a large prop to make them work. Not suitable for our planing hull boats. If I were to sell the wife and house, purchase a trawler for world cruising, I would demand a Deere powerplant. For our hulls, I think the best engine would be Cummins QSB.

I also worked on a (31' I think) Island Hopper that had a 300hp John Deer and it would get up and go.

Shamrock 29 / 17 knots max at 3500rpm? Something is wrong there. Wrong engine, wrong prop, 10 sacks of oysters growing on the bottom, mechanical problem, something. What is the engine model / prop size / etc.
(Don't buy without figuring this one out, needless to say.)
