I have been doing some research on how to pull it off on the cheap. The issues I'm having are the ridiculous costs of places like the Hyatt, and finding somewhere that has enough transient slips w/ a decent gathering spot for the folks attending. I've been thinking about Oxford. A good spot for a short time. Swing in, gather for awhile at a restaurant like Schooners. But for the ppl coming any distance, where to overnight becomes an issue.I'm sure I won't be able to organize anything for this year, as far as anything of size, that is well organized. This summer has been NUTS. If we could pull off an impromptu gathering, I'd love it. If we get enough response we might be able to do something before it gets too cold. I'm game for anything. If it's still fairly early, we could have a crab feast, they've been deelish this fall!

Oh boy!!! He's using the "F" word already (heck, the equinox hasn't arrived quite yet) and I haven't even gotten my boat off the trailer this season. I think I'm gonna throw up!
Edit: If my Hatteras trip falls through next month, I'd be up for a Chessie get-together. Can't be more than ~2-1/2 hrs from the Philly area.

I agree about Oxford. It has a nice anchorage and the Robert Morris Inn is fun to stay in if not particularly cheap. And, as long as the ferry is running, people could easily stay in St. Michael's or even Easton without the ferry. There is plenty of cheap lodging in Easton and plenty of not so cheap lodging in St. Michaels. Plus St. Mike's has the CBMM (http://www.cbmm.org) for out of town people looking for something else to entertain them. (not to mention quite a few of non-Palmer and used Shamrocks to ogle)
As long as the credit card has wiggle room, I can always get the Admiral to go over to St. Mike's and Oxford. She would be quite pleased to shop St. Mike's, have a couple of beers with the boys and and then put her feet up in the Robert Morris Inn. So it seems like a fine choice to me. And why box yourself in with the free part. I wouldn't be against paying you a bit of money to help cover your expenses. I know it is "marketing", but crabs ain't cheap in MD.

I've been getting BIG, FAT bushels of BIG, RUSTY jimmies pretty inexpensively. We'd just need somewhere to eat them. I think Oxford would be cool, I'm only about 15-20 minutes up the river from there. I worked at Oxford Boatyard for years, and have spoke to them a little about transient slips, and the possibility of using a building so we don't have to worry about the weather. I think we can figure something out. I've got a jon boat, so even if we have to anchor out for the party, I could get a little ferry service going. I guess it's all in what everyone wants to do. Probably the easiest thing would be to schedule some room at Schooners Landing (dockside restaraunt in oxford), there's dockage all around, you're right in Oxfart that has The Robert Morris, and other B&B's. And Cambridge is 20 mins. away(by boat), and there's lodging there, too. Like I said, I'm game for whatever, as a matter of fact, I might have to stop by Schooners' tonight, just to make sure the beer is still cold
