Where is the sender supposed to be located ? The rubber exhaust(raw water cooled) is hardley hot to touch , but the engine exhaust is very hot.

Skipm, I do not have a sender on mine. The elbow off the turbocharger has holes inside it to allow water to cool the exhaust coming out when the engine is running. The elbow on mine is cold to the touch as is the hose connected to the exhaust. The egt 780F is Cummins spec for this engine.

On the trucks that would be about right for a "post turbo" pyrometer location. pre turbo is 1100 *F.

Where to put on a marine motor...I don't have a clue. The exhaust has water running through it clear up at the head.

I still need to join www.boatdiesel.com so I can ask this question too.
