I'm currently using a Racor S3204p as a primary fuel element. I'm curious as to what others are using and what newer boats are being outfitted with. Mine's a '93.

Tarbaby,
I believe that is the same filter I used on my 190 Yanmar. It is a spin on, 40gph, 30 micron filter. It should be adequate. Most diesel folks would like to see you with a bigger flow even though you would be hard pressed to get that motor to burn 12 gallons an hour at wot. If the filter gets dirty it will restrict the flow substantially. The disadvantage to that filter is you cannot change the elements without removing the filter. The problem is, if you are in rough sea's how do you fill the filter back up with fuel? Also the filters are fairly expensive as compared to one you just drop in. I used mine for 400 hours without any problems so I would not worry about it. Just carry 3 or 4 extra filters in case you get bad fuel. Also carring a 1 gallon can of diesel to fill the filters is not a bad idea if you are well off shore.
