My Yanmar engine is running at 180-185 degrees at 3000 rpm at it goes up to 190 at 3200. The thermostat opens completely at 171 degrees and its relatively new and the impeller is new too. Are these temps normal??

I have a 4LH-DTE and my operating temperatures were exactly as yours. Called Yanmar and was told temps were on the upper end of normal operating temperature. He said I am OK just dont go over 200. Do you have any problems with belt stretching or engine corrosion? Been an ongoing problem for me.

If you buy the original belts they won't stretch like the aftermarkets do. In these month the temp is lower in the engine because the water temp. is a little colder than in the summer. What I do is cruise her at 3000 rpm so that the temp won't go over 185. My heat exchanger was clean but my air cooler was dirty in the intake, I cleaned it and the temp dropped like 3 degrees F.

Been down this road before. My guage reads just under 160when I'm running.
Talked to a Yan certified dealer and he stated that my gauge may not be a good fit for the engine. Namely, not a Yan temp guagehooked to the sensor on engine.
Talked to plant today. Told ok to run at 160.
What if the guage is off and someday it over heats. Now it's reading 180 or 190 and really coud be 200 or higher!!!
What next???
