Took possesion of my 22 wa in Jan. 240 Turbo Yanmar powered.
My records show 306.80 gals. used.
Cost: $681.38
$2.22/gal avg.
2.93gph consumned.
As of today I have 104.6 hrs. on engine
How am I doing? Since this is a new boat and I'm new to diesel, would like some comments/feed back.
Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2006 to all.

Len,
Those numbers sound very good. My previous 260 Express with Yanmar 6/250 h.p. seemed to average about 4 to 5 gph during the time I owned her so I think your +-3 gph is great.
Current boat has Volvo 6 cylinder diesels rated at 200 hp each and over the season I average about 4.75 gph each or just under 10 gph total. The boat over its 16 years has averaged 9.67 gph per the previous owners vrey meticulous record keeping.

Oh as a P.S. - its 16 degrees now and scheduled to drop to about 10 tonight as last night...no fish either but for different reasons!

Len, what is your gph at cruising speed? I have 22' with a 351 Ford and at cruising speed, (20 mph) for me, I burn about 8 gph.

I can't say much for gph at yr quoted cruising speed.
What my records show is a mix of harbor fishing, Gulf fishing. Trolling is in there too. I have no way of breaking it down that finely. I troll sometime for 3 to 4 hrs.
Speed is dictated by wind and water conditions. I like to run at 3000 rpms, that gives me 30 mph. At 71, that's fast enough. If wind and water are rough 20 mph is fast enough.
Best I can say. How do I tweek these records?? What else can i do??
Thanks
Len

What you need is a fuel flow meter. I understand that they make ones now that you can use with return lines. They are a great thing to have you can really tweek your performance with one of these. I didn't believe how useful they were until I install one, now I use it more than any other instrument on the boat.

May seem dumb or naive on my part, but will putting on a meter interfere with warrenty?
I don't know, so I'm askin !!??

Don't see how it could. It wouldn't be a modification that would impact on engine operation (unless you REALLY screw it up!).
In case you're interested, here's the link to Floscan's model selection guide:
http://www.floscan.com/ModelSelection/DieselEngineMfg.asp
Don't go by the prices they list there, you can probably get the unit for 30% - 40% off the factory direct price from places like here:
http://www.boatfix.com/bykeywordnew2ele.asp?textfield=floscan&texttype=2&submit=Go
Just find your engine model on the Floscan site then look up the price for the Floscan meter on the above page. My guess is that, for your engine HP rating, it's one of the following models:
6520-BOS-2K (Analog dial for flow, Digital readout for consumption)
750M-BOS-2K (Multifunction with Digital Tach, Hourmeter and Digital flow/consumption)
950M-BOS-2K (As the 750M but with GPS interface for MPG readout as well)
Me being the "bolthead" that I am, if I could afford it I'd get the 950M :D

Hey Kurt,
thanks for the info. I'll have to read it a number of times before I get a handle on it if at all. If I don't, I'm off to the Sham dealer for a huddle.
They don't give them away, do they??
Stay warm up there.
