That little lever on the pump is a PIA to bleed the system .Does anyone use an electric pump to do it? Or a friend said he puts air pressure in the tanks to do his bleeding.Thats my next job.

What does he do, crimp the fuel vents? adding air to any fuel system sounds like a disaster waiting to happen to me!

Actually he does it on his tractor . last year I used an electric fuel pump & It was a lot easier than the lever , the only drswback is the fuel lines(hooking & unhooking}.

Caterpillar makes a nice hand plunger primer pump that pumps a lot of fuel that is a heck of a lot better than the lever style. The only problem is that you have to get it and the filter housing. Deutz diesel makes the same style that is a stand only but not quite the volume but still a lot better than the lever type. I think the Deutz one is around 100.00 and can be put in line and mounted between the tank and your fuel filters. If you are interested I can look up the part numbers when I return to work on Monday.

GOOD LUCK

I do fuel filter changes all the time and have always found it is easiest to fill the filter with clean fuel first. Then you can pump it up with the lever on the lift pump a couple of times if needed.

Do the primary and secondary filters one-at-a-time. I always drain and refill the Racor bowl.

It probably is a good idea to have a gallon jug of clean fuel availible anyway for quick racor changes.

If you have to bleed it, crank it over and do it at the injector tips.//Ed

I temporarily put an old Carter electric pump between the tank & the Racors to fill the sys. then followed the bleeding procedure , she purred like a kitten. It's a 6bt Cummins I just hit 1000 hrs , so I adjusted the valves, & what a difference in quiet plus less vibration. Now to attack those 25 foot long spray rails.

Some do use a permanent electric pump after the racor in thier fuel systems. Companies such as Walbro and Stewart - Warner make them in 12 or 24V versions. The only problem with them is they have a magnetic strainer inside and will not work at all if clogged.

We use them when we have a long "pull" from the fuel tank but I personally don't like them unless needed.

I believe Hamilton Marine sells them.
