Aloha Diesel Dudes

I have been recieving many good comments form others regarding purchasing a new boat so I thought I would ask you guys about a diesel engine mid to late 80's v-8 international natural asperated/non turbo model px6.9 hp unknown. its in a captiva 24 suppose to be low hours in good condition.

Any advice on repair costs, parts or durability.

Many Thanks

Hmmm..I think I've seen one 6.9 in a boat. Likely a repower from a gas V8. The engines are solid, if not exactly powerful. I'd look hard at the marinization since this was likely a one-off job.

The 6.9 did have some issues with cavitation (air bubbles) eating the cylinder liners. "Fully formulated" anti-freeze or PenRay additive supposedly eliminated it.

I think I remember a company marinizing the IDI engine years ago. Star something I think. I think it was an I/O.
