The factory put a Cummins 6BT (210 hp) in mine when new. No idea of requirements to retrofit. Cummins now has HO 4 cyls with as much and more hp as my older 6. They prolly aren't as torquey and require higher revs for the same hp output.

i know for a fact that the four cyl has no torque. we put a pair in for a guy in jan and he hateded it as soon as he rode it. my boss told him to spend a little more for a six, but the upfront cost must have been to much. 5000$ i guess is a lot of money when you are spending around 50000 . still doesn't make sense to me. if the man who's job is engines tells you what you need and you put in what you want and it doesn't work then don't complain. sorry got on my soapbox with that guy agin. we were looking at a 300hp 6 that might fit. still not sure though. i have a while to think. i am not going to stop fishing just to put an engine in unless mine dies. what are your speeds and gph on that baby.

Speeds are right at 1 knot per 100 rpm w/ 16x17 and 1:1 gear.
GPH: I'd have to refer to the Cummins graph, but somewhere around 5 gph @ 1900 rpm. I haven't driven it enough verify, but others consistently say 3-4 mpg depending on conditions and how hard you push.

We have a Carolina Classic with a pair of 4BT Cummins rated @ 250hp @ 3000 rpm. They look as though Cummins just chopped 2 cylinders off the good old 6BT. They do rattle like a cement mixer @ idle and even more when the air box heaters come on and just aboutfull field the alternators.
No boating on Cape Cod today, nice rain coming down to water the lawn and garden.
Falmouth Offshore Grand Prix ends today, nice tournament that benefits a number of local charities.
I considered a Yanmar when I bought my boat new. I am satisfied with the Horizon engine and with the B&G network engine gauge I installed. It has a digital tach, ability to read engine codes and self diagnose, provides gph data from the ecm, resetable totalizer, calculated mpg, oil pressure, eng temp, voltage. Best upgrade on the boat at a cost of $350 (at least that what I paid thru our electronics shop).

What about the actual factory installed 240hp Yanmar, is it a 4 or 6 cyl?
Tks.
