View Full Version : What's with the Diesel limits on 2007 engines
I was at a gas station (Gulf) today in NJ and noticed a sticker on a low Sulfur diesel pump that said it wasn't to be used in 2007 or later model year engines (federal reg). Stated the fuel could cause engine damage.
Any of you Diesel guys out there know anything about this? Just curious.

I have noticed that too..........I believe that the next generation of diesels will require a lower sulfur fuel that is not widely availible in the states yet.
I paid $3.19 for diesel at the pump the other day when gas was under $2.90. Sounds like the price gap may grow even more. Remember when everyone wanted a VW diesel 'cause it was cheaper ????

Apparently the dealerships are telling people that it doesn't really make a difference. I haven't seen any stations that sell the new diesel around here, but plenty of 2007 diesel vehicles. Yeah, and I paid 2.85/gal for diesel friday when gas was 2.49/gal. What is up with that!!
The interesting thing is that the station also sold "dyed Kerosene". That pump was labelled something like: "For non-taxable uses. Penalty for use in a taxable application." The low Sulfur Diesel was $2.699/gal and the dyed Kero was $2.799/gal. Who the heck would spend the extra 10¢ to break the law. I know that Kero used to be less than Diesel but I guess now it's been bumped up.
BTW, regular gas was $2.419 in So Jersey, at that station, yesterday. In PA, it's around $2.679 near me.

Pedlyr is right, the new fuel will be even lower in sulfur than the current one, and the new 2007 trucks are going to have some type after burner in the exhaust system to clean up some of the emissions. I fueled my P/U truck yesterday and it cost me $92.00 to fill up @ $3.05/gal while gas at the same station was $2.67/gal. You can tell that home heating oil season is just about upon us when gas comes down and diesel stays high.
Saw diesel @ 279.9 today at a station that was selling regular gas for 255.9. On the other hand fueled the boat yesterday for 289.9 which has been the same price all season.
