Pulled a real bone head the other day when I overtightened the oil pressure sensor for the alarm and cracked the housing that the oil filter mounts to on my Yanmar 4LH-DTE. Four letter words flew with abandon but failed to resolve the problem and left me with only one option, purchase a new bracket. Good news is it is not part of the block but a bolt on bracket. Bad news is Mastery Marine in Tampa has to order the part from Japan. 4 - 6 weeks.

Wondering if anyone may know a used parts house or rebuild center where they might have the part on an old engine or laying around. Long shot I know but thought I would float this out there.

I have seen sources of used parts for Detroit 2 Strokes, Cats, Cummins on the internet, Gold Coast Power comes to name. Give them a call. I've never seen nary a source of a used part for Yanmars though.

Kept making calls and found the part at Mid River Marine in Ft. Lauderdale. Persistence pays sometimes. They had a 4LH DTE in parts in a box in the back and sold me the part for 1/3 the cost of a new one.

Sometimes Poseiden smiles on careless Shammy owners.

Thanks again for the input.

I am a source! My company deals for Yanmar.
But I believe I'm a bit far from you... (check "funchal madeira portugal" in google earth)
I'm sure you can find a good supplier near by, but if you need any help, just let me know! ;)

Yup, Portugal is a long way to purchase parts but you never know when you may have a hard to find part. Will keep you filed.

What kind of fishing do you have there? Tuna's I suspect but how is the Marlin fishing? I know the Azore's produce a good number of granders every year but do they get up your way.

Hi Banshee,

As far as I know the waters are similar to Bermuda's, as it is about the same latitude and 2000 miles east. I do a lot of different fishing: Spear fishing, Trolling (surface and bottom), bottom fishing, live bait and jigging.
Main bigger catches are Grouper, Wahoo, Amberjack, tuna, dorado, sharks…
I don’t go for the granders, but actually Madeira is a great spot for so. Last year, 2 of the7 granders reported were hooked around here.

fisholic,

Interesting, I would love to travel the world and fish places like Madeira and the Azores (as well as many others). We've had 3 granders caught off the north Gulf Coast of Florida in the last six years but probably dont get shots at the numbers you guys do.
Swordfishing has rebounded here and has become one of my favorite target species. Lots of fun and there's allways the potential for hooking some really big fish. (and they taste great).

Hey who knows you came here one of these days! And take a ride on the first Shammie around here… Mine! :D ...It will take some time though, since she is still in the US and will be repowered to diesel here.
who knows...
