26’ 1995 SHAMROCK Stalker: 170hp Yanmar diesel inboard, sounds under powered to me.... but what do I know ;) hence the question. What do you guys think, is it? What would the crusing speed be with this Yanmar 15, 18, 20 knots and what about WOT. Does horse power translate to knots or is more about transmission gearing?
Sorry for asking so many questions and not offering more to the site but that will come when I get my Shamrock and have more to offer.
THANKS MEN

That engine is too small for that boat. I've seen that 170 hp engine in a 20cc and cruising is 24 knots and WOT is 29 knots.

I'd think the 170 would be marginal with a cruise in the mid-teens. My 210 could use more on FAC days (rare) with a 20 knot cruise. A diesel does support a higher cruise rpm vs max rpm than gas though.

I have operated a Shamrock 22' Stalker center console that ran 22-25 knot cruise with the 170hp Yanmar. The 230hp is an overkill whose torque curve is better than a 7.4l Chevrolet engine.
I have seriously considered purchasing one (we are a Yanmar dealer and I can buy one for cost). Can't justify it. My Mercruiser Horizon has been flawless with nary a burp for 9 seasons.

Just wondering if that is a 4LH-DTE you are talking about. I have one in my 1986
26 cuddy and according to my both the books I have on the engine it is rated at 170HP @3300 rpm. Allways suprised me as that seem's inadequate HP for my boat but it performs quite well for my needs as I run 20 mph @ 2600 rpm with a full load of fuel Ice and crew and 26 mph WOT. Also running 2.5 hours offshore then trolling all day and running back I average 4 MPG. I likes it.

Yes, the Yanmar 4LH-DTE is rated at 170 hp.
It was produced from 1990 to 2000.

I was looking at a 26' with a 170 hp as well and i nixed it simply because of it. I am now looking at a 20' with the same 170 yanmar...and that is the size boat it should come with. :D Cruising at like 25
