Hi Captains

My name is Chris Riddell from the Rock of Gibraltar.

I want to/I am just purchasing a 22 Stalker. They all have a Gas engines in them, which at over $7 a Gallon makes no sense.

I there will be repowering with a new Yanmar 240 4cyl or the new 220 or 260 6cyl. Models. Most likely it will be the 260hp.

I need info on what gear ratio and prop Diameter and Pitch I need to match with the 220 or the 260hp Yanmars and whether I need to change the existing shaft which is coupled to a 240 Gas engine.

I would also appreciate info if any body has a 240hp Diesel as this would help.

What performance and actual fuel consumption should I expect to get from these engines.

Is this a dry ride boat hull I cannot find many articles on boat tests of this boat.

Many thanks

Chris

Chris...

Welcome to FTC!

There's a thread that discussed almost the same question you've asked. A member (fisholic) from your neck of the woods (Madeira Is.) is currently converting a 246 from gas to Yanmar power. As for a prop size, I believe you will find that on the 22' hull you will be limited to a 14" diameter, so a 1:1 transmission will more than likely be your ratio choice with one of the newer, higher revving BMW/Yanmars. Take a look at this thread as a starting point and good luck with your project:

As for a dry ride, in choppy seas and decent forward, quartering winds, it'll be wet unless you install spray rails. Do a search of the forums using either "smart rails" or "smartrails" as your targets. You will find that, otherwise, the boat handles the rough stuff quite well.

Kurt,

Love the penguins!!

I've got a copy of that on my computer & I laugh every time I look at it.

Yeah. I had to mess with it a bit since the original is almost 500K in size. The motion isn't as good in the one in my sig as it is in the original. :( I didn't want ppl with slower connections to have to deal with the large bandwidth.

But, we digress from the original topic (while chuckling).

There's no need to overpower this hull with 260 diesel ponies IMHO. The common diesel for that application stock was 170 yanmar. I'd be concerned what the idle speed will be with 260. For sure consider transmission available with a trolling valve...though in a docking situation where you might need to goose the throttle on ocassion is not what they are designed for and can destroy the clutches.

There's an owner or 2 on here with the 170 in the 22'. I'd get their performance specs before deciding you "need" 260.

Just my opinion.

I agree with Mistress. There is the (new) BY 180hp, 4 cyl, common-rail engine that may be a suitable option for a 22' (and spare about 5K...).

Hello Chris,
All I know is you can't go wrong with yanmar power. Dad has twin 260's in his Bertram and they run great!
