Ther are a lot of members that live in Florida, specially in the S Fla. area.
Why not plan a get together down here?

Well, the first step is to find out how many members would be interested in attending.
Then we pick a weekend in April or May 2008.
Then I run all over like a chicken with the head cut off and get sponsors to donate stuff for that date.
Then the date finally comes, and we get together.
Get to put faces and user names together.
Admire each other's boats.
Have fun with the beer and the BBQ! 8)

Definitely count me in as well if it is in S. Fla. Other locations may be tough if I have to schlep the boat and family across or up the state. Anyway, sounds like a good time.

Count me is as well - you know what would be cool if we could pull it off, is have the get together the weekend of the Air Show up in Lauderdale. I've always parked in that basin area just north of 17th. street bridge (I/C side), seems like plenty of room to park and a good swimming area, etc., and the views are pretty good of the show. Would be a good middle ground for the SE coasties (OK, the Palm Beach crowd may have to hoof it a little) - we'll make L.A. z buy the beer since he'll have the shortest trip...
Take care,
Barry
Hey-
I try and have a get together every weekend, just no one else shows up :) :) I'm usually the one in the Shamrock with the kids swimming while having an adult beverage before Noon while on the boat.
Just let me know where/when. Cannot trailer the boat, but if it's close enough for a boat ride, would love to raft up. I can even put someone's boat at my dock for a night if need be in a pinch.
Depending on the amount of boats, you could have a pretty informal setting right in Hillsboro inlet. Get there around 11AM and the area is pretty open for rafting up. There is also lake Santa Barbara, but the view is much better at Hillsboro inlet.
Also lake Boca is pretty good/open place. Nice views as well.
Off the Ft. Lauderdale beach you can anchor off the bouys. Air and Seashow would be cool as well. That basin just north of 17th street as well as the one near Sunrise would work as well. We ususally watch on the ocean side, just north of the "runway". I try and stay away from mass of boats are off shore.
Never been to Peanut Island, but could venture up that way as well.
If anyone wants to have a "test location" let me know.
Forgot to add, what about we all take a test drive on CYacht 26 when it's down for the Miami Boat show. Just what he'd like to see, a bunch of Shamrock guys on his boat.

This is getting interesting, so it is time to get organized.
Before we set a date and place, I would like to get some input.
First, let see how many members are interested in attending, and before I forget, Striper Sniper if you make it down here you will be a strong contender for the longest distance traveled prize.
Second, do we want this to be a Saturday event, a Sunday event, or a whole weekend event?
Send me an email with your forum user name, and your day (not date) preference.
Please, start sending me your emails.

Do a poll. Have 3 or 4 specific locations for members to choose from and include an option for people to select if they can make either locations.

Any one up for a "test" get together this weekend or ANY weeked in Hillsboro Inlet?
Give me an PM/e-mail and I'll give you my cell number. I rarely monitor the VHF, but when I do I'm on 72. Ask for "hall pass"

I am sorry I just saw your posting this morning, if not, I would have said yes to meeting this weekend.
MC, someone told me about a ramp area with a big parking lot on Federal Hwy. close to Boynton Beach. Do you know where it is? If it is as big as they told me, it would be perfect for big get-together.

Looks like I found you late but I like the idea of a group outing, we have a sham-20, (our first one.) I will check back in Jan 2008 after the hollidays. Going out west to see the kids.

I am in for sure.
Can I make a suggestion on a location. Peanut Island, There is the sand bar that is exposed at low tide s we can sit on the sand bar and have a few adult beverages as the kiddies run around, you have a boat ramp withing a 1/4 of a mile (Phil Foster), Its close to both I-95 and Turnpike, you can camp on the island and it has full facilities, and there are resturants near by that you can dock at, not to mention the inlet is right there for early morning fishing. Just a suggestion.

Do not know the one in Boyton, but there is a large ramp in Pompano at 14th street (Between Copans and Atlantic east of US-1). But like all ramps, it gets pretty busy during the weekend.
Have yet to make it to Peanut Island. Might check it out.

I know that we are going to need parking. Phil Foster has a lot and is right next to Peanut Island.
I am not trying to push Peanut but it offers many options.

We have members that have submitted places for the get together. I have included satellite photos of two of the places. I will post more as soon as I can get them.
Do we have a date/location yet?
How about the Sunday before the Superbowl in Lake Boca? No footbal that weekend correct? I could also do that Saturday, but may have coaching commitments (Kids soccer/baseball) that would keep me from attending.
If anyone locally wants to put their boat in my back yard on Saturday, I an fit one extra boat. Glad to help for a FTC'er

My wife and I will go where ever everyone chooses. But I am partial to Peanut Island. Zepol was kind enough to post a picture of Phil Foster Park, right next to the island. (it is the picture on the right)
I think we should aim for April, warmer month and warmer water. Just an idea.
Weekends in April
April 5 & 6
April 12 & 13
April 19 & 20
April 26 & 27
Mike
How about this:
A "Pre" get together in Lake Boca or Hillsboro Inlet the weekend before the Superbowl. Who ever wants to help set this up PM me and we can exchange ideas/info and post here for whomever wants to join us. Worse comes to worse, at least there will be 2 of us with beer/BBQ/Boats.
Would love to head up to Peanut Island some weekend with a group of people together. Pick a Saturday or Sunday rain or shine.
Kind of excited and nervous at the same time. Believe it or not, I've put over 250 hrs on this boat, A couple of hundred on my last 'Rock, and God Knows how many hours on my other boats while been docking at my house for over 14yrs and I have yet to be more than 20 miles from my home dock to "raft up"
gotta love S. Florida for boating/fishing.

Phil Foster Park is quite a bit different since that photo has been taken. Palm Beach dumped some serious money into giving it a facelift & they did an OUTSTANDING job!
Its an easy in/out for the guys that trailer.
The Topaz guys are actually planning a rendevzous this coming weekend at the Waterway Cafe. Hopefully it will expand & we move it to Peanut Island.
You guys may even want to have a mini tourney as part of your get-together.

It's just inside the Boca Raton Inlet.
Here is a link to a beach camera and web site for info on that inlet.

I used to live in Lighthouse Point and went to Lake Boca every weekend. It is a great place to swim and raft up.
Lake Boca, you have a sand bar that at low tide is ankle to knee deep, the Boca ramp is right there, resturants with dockage (The Cove (greatest Planters Punch EVER!!!)) The Boca Inlet is right there.
Peanut Island, you have a sand bar that at low tide is ankle deep, you have bathroom facilities, grills, hotels, camp site on the island and resturants all with dockage (Sailfish Marina, Riveria Marina, Panama Hatties, Rum Bar, Waterway Cafe), the Palm Beach Inlet is right there with deep water.
Phil Foster park is right there with 3 ramps and a lot of free parking.
Either place is ok with me and the boss lady.
I still feel that we set a date in April. This will give people a few months to plan, reserve rooms if they are coming from out of town, and for the weather and water to warm up.
But that is just my opinion.
I think it depends on the amount of boats and how many out-of-towners would need a place to stay?
If we are talking about just a day of rafting up, then Boca might be the way to go. If we are talking about a weekend event, then Peanut island. Maybe even a "bragging rights" only fishing tourneyment. I need a reason to finally head up to Peanut Island anyway. Been boating down her for over 15yrs and have yet to spend the day there.
Too bad there is not a local Shamrock Dealer who could help coordinate things.
Weather is always a concern, but not much we can do about that.

I will step up!!!
Peanut Island on the weekend of 4/12 and 4/13 with a rain date of 4/19 and 4/20.
If you need a hotel room please email me at kozlowski@palmbeach.k12.fl.us and in the subject put Shamrock. Tell me how many people you will have with you, if you will be trailering you boat and how big it is. I will call the local hotels and try to get group rates.
I can call a few local resturants so we can have a sit down dinner on Sat evening or we can BBQ on the island. Let me know.
I would also (weather permitting) set up a fishing tournamet for Sat morning. There are af ew local bait shops that I will try to get to donate prizes. However if we can not get prizes donated there will be a small entry fee so that we can buy prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place. We can make a Junior and Lady division.
I work at a High School that makes T-shirt so I will have some made up. Let me know your sizes. Send an email
Plenty of parking at Phil Foster and if you want to camp on Peanut Island here is a number to call for a camp site (561) 845-4445
Toll free: (866) 383-5730
If I forgot something please let me know
Mike
Thanks Captin Koz for stepping up and commiting a date.
I'll check my schedule to see what days I can make it. I coach baseball and we may have a game on one of those Saturday's. I really hope that we either have a bye that week or get the luck of the draw to not have a game that Saturday.
April the tempuratures will be back up, and the water a bit warmer as well (right now its' a "chilly" 74 degrees).

Yes, tarpon fishing here in Boca Grande Pass is world renown.
I first would like to know how many would come.
Second, the guys around here have to give me a hand.
Third, I want a show of hands!! Are you in ??
No sense putting lots of effort into if we don't get a good response.
So, who wants to go tarpon fishing? Also keep in mind there's lots of other fishing. Gulf: grouper, cobia, mackeral. Charlotte Harbor: snook, redfish, speck trout, etc.
Show of hands, please!!
