19th sounds good if the bite is on and weather permitting.
Any date is fine. Lets try and pick a date soon. Should we have an alternate date in case of bad weather? Maybe the following Saturday for the alternate.Looks like 2 votes April 19th. Any more input?
Gregk, What is your feeling on the full moon?
I also noticed there is a tournment on the 19th out of Fortescue.
I'm interested - If I can get the "Rose" resurrected by then (19th). Later would probably be better but don't count my vote toward the final decision.

i am confident bite will be on,its already started,19th is best for me following sat i will have to work,no if ands or butts noboby will cover for me i checked.bad weather date sunday the 20th?full moon is best time by some sceintific charts, seems that most world records get caught 3 days before during and 3 days after.i know drum fishing is best on a full moon.
come on kurt get "Rose" wet:rolleyes:

Weekdays are no good for me. As long as Mother Nature cooperates I'll be fishing every weekend.:D So any weekend will work for me.

I am in, if the date works.
I keep my Shammy at Sportsmans Cove in Fortescue, NJ
There are also a few shammy owners on Thebassbarn.com that I know would be in...

GOTTA PICK A LOCATION TO DRINK:D :D :D
wife reminded me that we have a wedding on the 19th.oh well;)
Pat, I was thinking just an informal tournament. An excuse to get together after a good day of fishing. Maybe the winner( largest striper) drinks and or or eats for free. Nothing is set in stone. If anybody has any ideas please post um up. We could let it evolve over the years into whatever we want.
Joe. Let them know. Or I can post on TBB.
Kurt, If you need a hand, you know I am about a mile from you.
Other thoughts:
All are welcome ,lets just say winner must be fishing from a Shammy.
I like Gregk's thinking about the 19th. If we don't get any other conflicts or other input over the next few days I say we pick that date with Sunday or the following weekend as the alternate.
GREGK

guess we have to pick a location for after the torney and have to make some rules.
atkinson on rt 9 has good bar food also a regular restrant menu, good beers on tap,the usual suspects and some good tap ales.if you know a place lets hear it.
start time when ever as long as it after 12:00 midnight or a early morning start like 6:30 am from home port?or where ever you want, capy may has a free boat launch with good parking over the rt9 cape may bridge on right.
end time 4:00 pm or too late?honor system:rolleyes: ,picture next to tape measure.for the catch and release guy's.we are all fisherpeople(politcly correct)and therefore speak the truth, right!!!:D
pick a meeting time after cleanup at bar/resturant?6:30.would be a nice 12 hr day so we will be hungry(for the basic food groups, water yeast, barley, hopps) could call a week or so in advance for some sort of reservations,at where ever we decide.
maybe throw $25.00 in hat to start with, and refund to winner.
these are only sugestions please help i am not good with this stuff.but will gladly help:smile:

My wifes brother is getting married in May. The wedding is in Kansas I told her she and our daughter can go, but I'm staying here and fishing. I was about to tell her I am just kidding dear thinking she was going to freak out. Instead she said ok I think you could use a few days to yourself:o:D
Gregk, All good ideas. I don't know about BT3100 but it may take me a little longer to get down to Cape May area if I stop fishing at 4:00. Maybe 3 hours between stop time and beverage time.
Good food and good beer, I'll vote for Atkinsons.
theo551
03-24-2008, 10:02 PM
I agree with curt they are all some very good ideas. I also vote for Atkinson's.
I like the idea of an early start say like 5:30am - 6:00am and ending at 4:00.
Picture of fish next to a tape measure we need to figure a way to get the weight in there also. I can always have my fish weighed at the marina and take photos of the scale. I don't know about others.
When you say $25 in a hat. Is that per person or per boat? 3 people on a boat = $75, 2 people $50, 1 person $25 or just $25 per boat.
BT3100
03-24-2008, 10:43 PM
It would take me 2 hours to get to cape may.
Maybe we should do it as a pool. Everyone throws an amount 5-10 into a hat and winner takes all.Everyone on their own for food an drink. Cocktail hour whenever you arrive, winner determined after everyone arrives.Entries must be posted the day before.
I trailer my boat so it takes a little while.
GREGK
03-25-2008, 01:19 PM
that stuff is just out there, pick time, place.will be hard on waitress if she has to keep say 10 diff tabs.hence into the hat?is $25.00to little per, man?per boat?winner gets a cut?how about talking to shamrock maybe winning crew gets a jacket, hats ????.
come on i asked for help.
did i just hear a whinng noise
p.s. wedding is iffy:rolleyes:
look'ng good!
and no pun intended
I think we should try and keep it simple this time, since it is the first one. Somewhere between, " lets meet a the bar after fishing today" and a full blown tournament.

No I wet slip at Sportsmans Cove which is right at the mouth of the creek of Fortescue. Where are you at?
I have been to the restaurant at Sundog. The food was really good considering it's location. It was a BYOB as of last year. Never been in the creek, but the current whips through there.

So what are we doing here? A tournament? Just fishing and getting together afterwards? Nothing at all? Is the 19th the date chosen? If so we got to get something organized, the 19th will come quick.
Here is my vote: Please suggest changes.
Enter by posting on this site no later than 11:59 PM on the 18th which obligates every person to pay entry fee. A Captain can enter for his crew and pay entry fee. ( Capt. and 3 crew = 4 entry fees)
April 19th with the 20th as an alternate
Atkinson's Never been there but it sounds good.
Start any time after 12:00 midnight End 4:00 PM
Arrive Atkinson's whenever and have a cold one.
Someone collects entry fees.
Photo Weigh in at 7:00 PM at Atkinson's Take photo of scale and tape measure with a copy of that days front page of any local paper, or bring fish. Can you get the paper that early if anyone really wants to start at midnight?
Award cash prize for biggest
Drink and tell lies, eat,and whatever.
I think entry fee should be low, but enough to keep it interesting. How about$10.00
Sun Dog Marina offered to host a tournament. I have never entered a tournament so I do not know much about them. If we all have fun at this get-together I would be more than happy to organize a true tournament in the Fall

That ought to be fun - 3 bods on a 20'er - cozy! I can see it now - three trophy fish, all hooked at the same time! An "Irish" fire drill! :D
I'm still trying (hoping) to get the "Rose" ready and may be bringing my daughter (the original Heather Rose's mom) along - she hasn't been fishing for a long while and is sorta chomping at the bit - we'll see. We probably wouldn't catch a damn thing but it would still be a good day.
Where are people launching (if trailering to the event)? I'm not very familiar with that part of S. Jersey... Is this going to be confined to the Delaware Bay?
More info, please...

I have never heard of using a womans stocking to keep the clam on. Probably wouldn't be good for the fish. I usually just hook the clam push it up high on the hook spin it then bring it back down and hook it again that works good for me.

What type of depth do you usually fish in?
I'm probably bringing a penn 6500ss with medium action ugly stick loaded with 25# braid although I'll go with a level-wind if we're fish'n in 40'+ deep water.

Wildwood report today at work the birds were going nuts all morning up and down the beach
Just posted the official entry post. Two things.
Should we be flexible with the entries? If for some GOOOOOOD reason a crew or capt can not attend they can withdrawal with a second post on the official entry post. This would allow us to get a good Idea who is serious about attending now. Comments?
We need a Banker. A volunteer to collect the loot. Someone who thinks they will arrive at Atkinsons early. Any accountants out there?
Only 11 more days. Kurt how is the boat coming? Bt3100 I see you've been out. Trying to get an advantage? :D I may try tomorrow. Joe and Pat have you been working on that "special" rig?
Only 11 more days. Kurt how is the boat coming?
Well.....
Right now, the exhaust hoses are disconnected from the risers in prep for re-manifolding. However, the boat is still covered and rather hard to get into to work on it due to a) All the crappy weather we've been having and b) I got a nasty case of the flu last mid-week and am still feeling lower than whale crap. I had a similar bout with a bug last year at this time and it had me pretty much knocked down for three weeks.
The only thing I really want to get done is the new manifolds and it should be good to go. If I am feeling better by this weekend, that just may happen.
Right now the only thing I can even think of doing is those #$@%!^ taxes. Got the program and all my records together, now just have to belly up to the bar and do them... Maybe tomorrow...

Guys hate to sound negative but the fishing right now is really tough.
Talked to 5-6 guys who went out yesterday from Cape may up to Ship John and only a few shorts. These are hard core guys who catch a lot of fish.
I have been going out of the river the last few trips. Went of the arsenal ramp and fished the Tacony Bridge on Sunday. 3 Bass 25.5", 27", and a 31"
I think we are a few weeks early :x
Yup I went out Thurs last week. Nothing. It is getting warmer though. May try later this week. If anybody wants to change the date, let's start talking.

I'm ok with the change in date for all noted above reasons. I really would like to meet as many of you that I can so if pushing it back works better on several levels I'm all for it. If you want to keep it as is that's cool with me too. Agree or disagree..... please advise.

I'm with Pat. If we can get more people involved like Kurt and Mad Mike by delaying a week or two until the bite is better, I am all for it. Theo, BT3100, Gregk, Joe, what do you think? Any conflicts over the next couple of Saturdays for anyone?

:rolleyes:Curt i am a xxl how much do you want for it not expecting to win so maybe i can buy in LOL.drum hey why not but this is the first annual striper tourney.use the drum as a side bet?AFTER ALL IT IS A FULL MOON AGAIN!
We will not be able to fish on Sat. (family concerns). But, there is a fairly reasonable possibility that we'll be able to make it to the evening's after-tourney festivities - if I can figure out where Atkinson's is. If you have to make reservations, put us down for 2 ppl (the Admiral wants to come along). If the event has to be moved to Sunday (05/18 ), we're out of it for the whole shebang.
I have an address of:
Atkinson's Restaurant & Tavern
1010 S. Rt. 9
Mayville (Cape May Courthouse), NJ 08210
(609) 465-5641
My mapping program shows it to be just about where Rt. 9 splits away from the GS Pky near Mayville - see attached map segment.
Even if I can't make it to the tourney itself, I'd like to knock a few back with the crowd afterwards.
Current weather for the weekend looks to be 30% chance of showers for Sat. and Sun.

why do you park in a driveway and drive on a parkway??????

Guys, I know this was before the storm but I fished on Sunday up north by Ship
John and had a nice morning. Two fish that were over 33", one was 35.5"
Lost one at the boat, as I was alone and its hard to net and hold the rod.
I only fished for two and a half hours and caught 5 fish, 3 shorts and the two keepers. Bunker, not clam...
I did not hear anything good south of the Maul.
Joe
Fished yesterday around 34 buoy. Nada. I know it was after the storm and didn't expect much. "Fresh" but poor bait. Water was pretty clear on top, but the fish finder was showing a line in the water column. Marked a lot of fish most above this line. Any body know what the fish finder was showing? Thermocline? Oh caught one small flounder. I know there is money on the line but HELP. Joe/BT3100 where are the fish?

There is no rule against buring spots on this website? Is there?
LOL
Couple tips.
1) Many times people don't like to eat fish with Scales left on them, stripers feel the same way right now (hint), they also are looking for smaller meals, and even like steaks vs. chunks
2) There is a lot of grass floating around so it may help to crank one or two of your bait sets a few turns from the bottom.
3) Stripers love heads (noggins) in the fall they like them with 1"-2" of meat left below the head, OTHER times of the year they like the noggin almost completly stripped of meat...
4) The last time I fished the bay and caught it was right next to this GREEN bouy that comes right after #34 and before #36
Sorry to be so secretive LOL
I will be on the Bay on Sat fishing up by Ship John, hit me on the radio BT3100

Joe, Thanks for the tips. Lota grass yesterday. At one point it was almost unfishable. Is that grass rolling along the bottom? Tip #2
No I wasn't fishing on Mothers Day. That was my first time up that far this Spring. Launched out of Sundog Marina, Not a great ramp when the tide is ripping through there.
Made a reservation at Atkinsons for 7:00. Winner gets a free drink! They will set us up with a big table. I will let them know a rough number Saturday morning. Kurt, I will count you and the Admiral in. Sorry you will miss the fishing.
Theo, Mad Mike Hope you guys are still in.

Yes it rolls on the bottom pushed by tide, it will show on your sonar as lines, try to fish under or over it.

If you are fishing the upper bay, you may want to launch from Sportsmans cove (the old Double A in Fortescue) I know its a longer drive but may be worth it.. Fresh bait as the bunker boat docks right next to my slip
...Kurt, I will count you and the Admiral in. Sorry you will miss the fishing...

Joe Kerins is out of town so he will not be fishing if we go tomorrow.
Joe/bt3100 I think fishes in anything and I think is planning on fishing tomorrow.
I plan to fish tomorrow and Pat/ striper sniper is joining me.

I think we need to look at the weather in an hour or two.
Obviously if small crafts are up we move it.
I would fish in 20K if its SW. At this point I am in unless it hits the marine forecast as SCA... Keep in mind that spring is notorious for fickle forecasts...
The forecast for Saturday now calls for:
Upper Bay Morning 10-15 W Afternoon 10-15 SW seas 1-2
Lower Bay Morning SCA 15-20 gusts to 25 W Afternoon 10-15 SW seas 2-4
Upper bay looks doable. Lower bay questionable.
Sunday forecast better in lower bay worse in upper bay chance of showers.
As of now: Not Fishing: Joe Kerins,Kurt, Mad Mike
Maybe Fishing: Curt, Pat, Joe
Unknown: Gregk
If we delayed would we have better weather and more people fishing? Looks like Gregk is the tie breaker and he is out of the lower bay.

At this point there are two reports out there..
NOAA says 10-15 in upper bay
Weather Channel is calling for 20-30 MPH
I am going to sleep and waking at 3:15 and going to head down.
Unless is a total blow out I am going... Safty is always first
Pat and I will do the same. Can always fish in the river if it is too bad. If Gregk is in we will still meet at Atkinson's If it is just the three of us, no sense heading an hour South. Joe we will be on 78.
Kurt, I hope you see this.

BT, Hope all is well with your daughter. Tried to hail you also. Realized I had inadvertently switched to 76. Tried 78 and you had probably already left.
Our total for today. One 17.75" flounder, one perch on way in. No prizes for us. Do we send you the money or did you take the skunk also?
How about a Drum tourney . I give up on the striped ones.

not having the internet sucks at times but most time i can live without.next time maybe i should give sombody my ph #
bt glad to hear maddie is good (first teeth i hope).
weekend started thurday morning with a honey dew list.checked posts.the went out to office party, got up early fri no posts so off i went.fished friday at tussey"s around 12:30 pm sarted w/frsh bunker and clam (doggies on bunker.) about 15min on hook one rod goes good fight 49.12# by my hand held (marina 51.03#)in bouncey bays but not bad for a hand held.switch all rods over to clam and had a great time til about 5:00 about 1hr from top of tide nothing but doogeis both kinds.total one in box and 5 released in water that arc dehooker works great and one lost at boat.all others about same size didnt want to harm three looked real fat.
then came saturday morning.frends that you havent fish with for awhile bring this stuff called crown royal i never heard of it but it is good lol.so friday night was rough at my place.morning worst!thank god the wind gods were understanding and let us sleep in till it died down around 10:00.decided to make the run to ship john/crossledge area (i am in love with my boat)so it was tide with wind not too bad put bow down a little and no spay real dry.stop at a few places(fish finders LIE)a lot of junk in water and rolling grass on bottom.went 04er (skunk)on stripers.6-6 on doggies for the day.at one spot off of the maul the local dolphins were playing tag jumping, rolling was real cool.coming in tide off bow and wind off starboard crew got wet capt stayed dry.put about 93 miles by gps (im still learning how to run her) and put in 46 gal fuel.
tried hailing on 78.had great time when it didnt count.wanted a striper so gave it a shot!
passed theo551 on the way into the canel, nice to meet you and bob back at the dock.
went to atkinson around 7:45 nice elderly woman was trying to help me with the shamrock party and the hostes was really rude. so we walked out got a pizza and watch the allstar race.
