FISHING TOURNAMENT:

Welcome to this year’s FF VI Fishing Tournament!

The event will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, July 31st, with a “Kick-Off” bash/dinner at the Firefly Restaurant (outside patio) where registration will take place. Upon registering for the event, boaters will be allowed to depart anytime thereafter (those who want to cruise out Friday night) with everybody due back in on Saturday, August 1st, at 6:00 p.m. for weigh-in time.

Please Note:
Entry fee is not a requirement to participate in Fish Fest VI. Participants who wish not to pay will not be eligible for jackpots in either categories

Boat Category
This will be based on a point system (see “Tournament Rules” below). The boats accumulating the most points will be awarded cash for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. If any of the boats are tied for the most points, the heaviest 3 fish will determine a tie break. Any boat team that desire to enter this category will be required to pay a $100 entry fee for this event, which will go into the jackpot for this category with a 50-30-20 percent split for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place; respectively.

Individual Category
This category will be optional with one individual catching the heaviest fish being awarded cash. Anybody who desires to enter this category will be required to pay $25 into this jackpot with the one winner taking it all.

TOURNAMENT RULES:

1). Yellowtail, Albacore, BFT, YFT, Bigeye Tuna, Dorado, White Seabass, and Halibut: For each of these species, the first fish will be worth 5 points and each additional fish will be worth 1 point; up to a maximum of 5 fish for each species per boat (i.e. 9 points maximum for each of these species).

2). All other species will be worth one point up to a maximum of 5 fish for each species per boat (i.e. 5 points maximum for each species).

3). Only finned fish with scales will count towards the tournament (i.e. no sharks, skates, rays, marlin, swordfish, eels, squid, lizard fish, etc.).

4). Excluded fish include "bait fish" (i.e. anchovies, sardines, small mackerel, etc.) and larger mackerel. Everything else is fair game!!!

5). Only fish caught by line fishing with rod and reel will count towards the tournament.

6). We operate on the "honor" system with the intent of making this a very fun event. Please do your part to make this an enjoyable experience for all.

7). All current fishing regulations for California and Mexican waters will be applicable to the tournament. Any violation will be grounds for disqualification for the entire boat crew or individual.

ENJOY!!

I'm penciled in for the fishing part with MrfishIt. If somebody is coming from the SF bay area or somewhere inbetween here and sandy Eggo, I wouldn'd mind carpooling. Long drives might still be a bit much for me healthwise. Same goes for roomin.

Fishing for more than the one day is a definite option, though I may not be up to full crew duties. But hey...I'll push it (me) till it breaks.

I'm heading to the Mexican Department of Environment, Natural Resources and Fisheries the day before the event (i.e. Thursday) to pick up permits at cost. Doing it the day of the event in the past proved to be a royal PITA.

For those who would like for me to pick their's up, PM me the name(s) and city as they appear on each person's drivers license; and indicate if you want a weekly, monthly, or one year permit. Here are the prices:

Weekly $25.80
Monthly $37.00
Yearly $48.20

Tackle stores mark these up by $10-$20.

Yo Fishit,

It's doubtfull I'm going to make it now. My wife is planning a trip to Scotland. I can't say no after all she's done to nurse me through my ordeal. Now she needs to do something for heself. I'm going to OR next week to fish with my dad and some friends for a few days. that's gonna blow my kitchen pass for an extended absence. Someone needs to take care of the four-legged kids while she's gone.

I can't drive my camper yet (stick shift) for accomodations and it's a long ass drive for 1 day of fishing.

Have a potential family vacation trip planned that weekend, but it might fall through if the kids can't change shifts on their summer jobs. So, if the vacation falls through, I'll be there. Just got my boat in the water for the first time last week for a shakedown cruise - seems like its ready to go fishing!

Things have been hectic for myself and I believe it has been the same for Danny as well. I'll be tied up through July 28th. I doubt we'll be able to have the T-shirts done in time. I will check with Danny.

The fishing is getting good! Lot's of fish being caught out of San Diego, Yellowtail, Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, Blue Fin Tuna, Albacore. The timing of the Fish Fest couldn't be better! I'm really anxious to get down there! Friday can't come soon enough!

Who do I have to sleep with to get a t-shirt or two? Can I get a zip up hoodie?

I'm heading down to the Dana to find out about slips. I'll report the latest to you.

Also, I have received a list of mexican permits requested for Offshoregary's crew. Does anybody else want me to pick up permits for them? You'll save at lease $10 on each of them.

If we order T-shirts, they will not be available the day of the event. Would you all be willing to wait to receive them after the event? They will be shipped to you.

The fishing is hot now. A guy landed an 80# Bluefin tuna on 25 lb. test about 45 miles SSW of Mission Bay. It took him 40 minutes to bring it in and he almost got spooled 4 times.

The slips are scarce this year. Unless something comes up at the last minute, which can very well happen, we'll need to book slips at the nearby marinas. He's got the one slip reserved for a member who booked his room a while back (ibfishing, I believe). The doc master said he'll know more by Thursday.

Seaforth Marina is accross the street from the Dana and Marina Village is just down the street from there. The Hyatt also has slips. If any of you want me to look into availability, just let me know the days you want the slip for.

Do you want me to check availability for you Ed? If so, what days?

I do have a room reserved at the Dana and may give it up at the last minute. I don't know, but maybe I can change the name on the reservation if someone else wants it.

PM me if you want me to check it out. Reserved rate is $195/nt plus tx for Sat/Sun nights if I recall and needs to be cancelled by the 30th.

My fishing buddy and tow driver is now forced-selling his house due to local economic distress and cancelled on me this week. He needs to get his house listed and staged, and move into a rental asap. 98 bottles of beer on the wall...

So depending on a number of stars aligning I may not make it on Saturday and will show up early next week. Depends on if I can get my truck ready to tow and find a new crew, etc. Either way I get to spend most of August in San Diego so don't catch all the fish...

I left my name with Ted at the Marina for a slip. Heard nothing from him. Either way I want a couple of shirts - put me down for two XL and two L... Maybe see you guys on Friday - cheers!

Sorry, can't make it. Its our last weekend with our oldest daughter before she heads back to college, so the family weekend getaway is still on. Even if that weren't the case, my boat is down with a bad tranny after a run to the 209 and back last week. I've got a new tranny coming from Blankendingy on the east coast, but it won't be here until Monday. I'm really bummed to miss this -would really like to meet some of you guys and see all the Shamrocks and show off mine as well. Guess I'll have to wait until the next get-together. Good luck to all. I think the fishing is about to go off this summer, so hopefully there will be lots of action! Please keep me posted if there is any other Shamrock event in the future around here.

Yes, I can still have all made. I have tons of stickers. few hats and I can have shirts order if we can round up enough people. I need a minimum of 12 per shirt.
I'll post something up with the catalog. I have a lot of members that want gear.

Congrats on winning Danny. I'm sure you worked hard for that YT. As for us we went to the E.Butterfly and found some BFT. They were boiling all around us in a school and we were in the middle of them watching them swim under the boat and not a single one would bite a sardine or lure. I have never been so frustrated...

After that went to the 43 high spot and put about 10 rockfish on the boat, then to the 182 and got to pull on a 4ft blue shark on slow trolled bait around a paddy.

To make it worst I also went out on Sunday for nada at the 371. Found porpoise and YFT at the 302 that also wanted nothing to do with us. The only way I can describe the reason for no fish is very "unstable" conditions this year both on land and off or they already have enough to eat without our help.
