View Full Version : Lower Chesapeake Bay Rally?

Seems that there are a number of Shamrock boats on the lower Chesapeake Bay, would there be any interest in a get together this coming Summer. Possible locations could be downtown Hampton, Virginia Beach (rudee inlet), Yorktown (great village dock). All have hotels, docks for over nights and restaurants on site. Let's hear from those who have an interest, I'd be glad to help organize.
Happy New Year,
Rod

Might have figgered that one!

I may have a place to crash in the Cape Chas area, if so, I'd be interested - gotta be careful about how I approach the resource though...

I imagine that it's a pretty good haul across the mouth of the bay from the DelMarVa side to the VA Beach area. Might just trailer the boat across the CBBT and launch with the rest of the cultists that are up for this thing...

Great idea.

Count me in-Birddogone thats a good idea that can be pulled off easily with all the ramps and inlets we have be it on the Eastern Shore side or the Va.Beach to Penninsula area. Alot of members live in the area and its a reasonable haul for most that live in the Mid-Atlantic area so it has the potential to have a good turnout of the cult.

Looks like we may have Rally in the making! I would think that a weekend during warm weather is a definite, one or two days, what months are best and what rendezvous point is going to work for everyone? It looks as though we could have a good turn out, I would think either Va. Beach ( Rudee Inlet) or Down town Hampton, both have ramps close by hotels, plenty of dock space and restaurants not to mention being on the door step of some of the best fish'n on the eastern seaboard. Let's hear some ideas and any advice for those that have done this before.
Thanks,
Rod

If the guys are planning on keeping their boats in the water for the weekend, Hampton would be a key spot due to the transient slips and the Radison. Don't know if Rudee has that same proximity of slips and hotel.

Connie,
Your right about that, not to mention Blue Water Yacht around the corner. Rudee does have slips but you'll need reservations plus it's more expensive. However, you can anchor up owl creek right behind the Aquarium not far from the boat ramp and the ocean front is obviously right there.

We live in Salisbury, MD and would love to join. Would be neat to meet up with fellow cult members say in Crisfield and then motor on down from there (3-4hrs?) How is it going to work as far as being kid friendly? We have a 7 and 4 year olds girls that LOVE the boat. Bring them or leave them home? Don't worry no one will offend me just nice to know if kids do well at these or not. We have taken them to antique car shows and they do very well.

All the rallies that I have ever attended motorcycle, car, etc have all been family events which include young and old. I'm not sure where Crisfield is but traveling down the Bay should be a great ride.

If your kids were excluded I would boycott the event. That's how strongly I feel about it. I'm a family man first and foremost and FTC is my extended family. However.... I do like my Scotch and others have there vices as well. Simply put I don't expect it to be a church picnic:biggrin:

Maybe Mikey bring 5' tall pink, bird-looking, alien thing in case QF lose interest in inflatable friend - give possible new love interest.

If QF reject new interest, and new owner of 26' Mack "Pink Flamingo" bring boat, could use for vessel figurehead...

Again, you could be the one who traveled farthest, let's hope the winds are less than last time...

All right here's what looks to be the best dates. Weekend of July 24-25 (Sat,Sun). Rendezvous point at Hampton Public Piers which is adjacent to the Crown Plaza Hotel. I need an estimate on how many will want to use the hotel for over night so to setup a block of rooms. Also here is a site of the docks and location of the rally http://www.hamptonyc.com/downthebay/dockage_hampton.htm.

I talked to a friend today that is a delivery captain. He said that with my boat it would be a 2 day run. Spend the night in Coinjok and go outside at Oregon Inlet. It takes me 4 hours to Virginia Beach towing a 22. Probably 4 1/2 with my 26. I'm planing on going but I don't want to commit and jinx myself.

Jerry,
Just saw your question, sorry about the delay. I haven't had any suggestions but I think fishing is a given and if some want beach time there is plenty of that around. The hotel and marina are downtown Hampton so it's walking distance to shops and restaurants not to mention the restaurant outside and the more formal one inside. Norfolk is straight across the waterway for those interested. All impute appreciated.

Met with Group Sales Manager today at the Crowne Plaza in Hampton Va. Here are the details in stone for the weekend of July 24-25 2010. Block of ten rooms, (king or 2 double beds, your choice) $119.00 does not include food or taxes. Special rates will also apply up to two days before the 24th and one day after if you'd like to stay longer or come sooner. The slip rate at the hotel will be $1.00 per foot. based on a minimum of 6 boats or more. I tentatively but not confirmed, a marina down the street for boat launching and trailer storage. Will know in the next couple days on that.
There will be a ton of things to do within walking distance. Every Saturday night is "Street Fest" a block party with a band and plenty of adult beverages.
I will post all the contact information for you to register as soon as they get us posted on their website.

Boys, it looks like I'm going to have to pass on the festivities. My work load is not going to permit me to leave next week. We are restoring a landmark building, and won't be done in time. I have plane tickets to Fl. that I'll have to switch out, as I was bringing the open up from there. You guys have fun, and tip one for me (Or two, if you insist).

Hey Fellas,
Sounds like our get together is goin down the proverbial creek. If all are in agreement, we'll look forward to a future date.

Let me hear from ya as soon as possible.

I think we should wait until everyone has their boats squared away. This was just not ment to happen. We planned it right with plenty of time and a good participation. Stuff happens.

Very good idea Curt. We should go when the fishing would be best. Either Fall or early spring would be great times to get togerher and fish. The ladies could shop while we fish and then everyone get together in the after noon to compare fish tales.

I usually go for a week in late December or early January. I rent a 2 bedroom condo that can sleep 8 for about $350 a week. Alot of stuff is closed but last year they had a Christmas parade down the beach. It can be cold.
