I need some help from the members with fuel flow meters. Have any of you ever tablulated the fuel flow at specific RPMs, and if so did you log the corresponding speed. There are quite few post for this information, only asked in different ways. I have a 220WA with the 351 and would love to see those numbers to be able to graph them. I cruise at 3000 and know what that burn is but I can only guess what the other rates are without a FFM. Semi-cabin fever here in South Carolina until the March run begins. Thanks, Lee

Have a FloScan on my rig - '87 Predator 26 w/850 hrs HEAVILY laden with extras including a wind-catching radar arch. Original 351/250hp PCM w/electronic ignition and MSD 6A box. Prop is 16X17 uncupped. Three 200lb fishermen and 100gal fuel. Flat calm sea, no tide.
2600rpm 7gph 16mph
2700rpm 8gph 18mph
2875rpm 10gph 22mph
2950rpm 13gph 23.5mph
3000rpm 15gph 24.5mph
3700rpm 19gph 29.5mph (WFO)
That's all she's got.
Guess what engine speed I run at?

Lep,
I guess 2875 rpm at 22 mph. How did I do?
P.S. I do not think that is too bad considering you are pushing a loaded 26 footer.

I have a 22WAC with a 351 and a flowscan.
I run it up to 3000 get it trimmed out and then back to 2900-2950. At 3000 the secondaries start to open and the flowscan creeps up to 11.5 - 12 GPH at 2950 I am back to 10 GPH with less than 1/2 knot of speed change. I have learned to hear the secondaries and do not need to look at the flowscan as much. You will use a lot more fule at 3200 RPM - 14GPH for a gain of 2 knots. My dad thinks I could put a stronger spring on the secondaries and delay opening for another couple hundred RPM - he said they did this in the 60's to get better milage on the highway with "hot rods". Sounds like a good idea.

Mike/P.E. - Bingo!
Bill - I posted this little massage of the carb in an earlier thread. You need to get the Holley Carb kit that contains the different secondary springs and use the BLACK one. Stiffest tension and will delay the secondary opening by maybe 100rpm. Anything is beter than nothing. Boat engines do not respond exactly the same as Car hot rods, but close. This tip works. regards, Leprechaun
