1. ice in the bilge
I am looking at buying a 246WA that was used only 10 hours between 1/00 and 1/01. The boat has been on a trailer the whole time and has FWC but, when I went to look at it last week there was about 2" of ice in the bilge! We kicked on the pumps and they pumped water for about 2 minutes. My question is, Should I be concerned about the low use of the boat or the ice and its effects on the PCM engine?

With FWC, I would not be necessarily worried about the block. However, all the bolt-on appurtenances need to be examined such as: raw water strainer housing, raw water pump housing, heat exchanger, manifold and risers, and transmission cooler. I may be forgetting some. A little help anybody?
Also check raw water wash-down pump and fresh water tank & pump, etc. I would never buy a used boat without a sea trial, and I would most likely start this one on the hose (if it has the flush kit). Bring it up to temperature and see if she leaks anywhere. Shouldn't take long to figure it out. Watch temperature gauge and make sure water is coming out of the exhaust.
I assume that this is a northern boat given that it had 2" inches of ice in the bilge? Any idea how the water got there?
Not to sound nosy, but what's the asking price? Good luck.

The ice is a result of snow melt and rain. The port side stern drain was clogged and there was ice on the deck too. Looks like the drain was clogged with leaves. The boat is a 1998 FWC, PCM EFI with 150 hours, marine head, electronics box, VHF, Furno GPS and FF, canvass t-top with full curtins. The boat is dirty outside but looks new inside. Asking $43,000 with trailer. Is that about right? BCVALUE is confusing because I do not know if I should add options like the t-top and canvass to the base price of the boat. Any hints?

C-Dog,
Send me an e-mail and to discuss price specifics. I have a loaded 2000 246 W/A.

Did you check www.traderonline.com boat section to see what other used boats are going for. Also call a few dealers to get quotes on new boats. Will help with deciding whether you are getting a deal or not. I believe NADA also has a boat book, but I could be wrong.
Good luck.
