Here's a crazy question...I just assume that the engine rotation on my 351 Ford motor is left handed. Am I correct? The boat is a '90 Mackinaw if that matters. Thanks in advance

My 2000 246 W/A is RH. Just looked at prop yesterday to double check size and pitch and stamped in two places is a "R" and a "RH". What do you other 246 owners have, RH or LH?

Normal (American automotive based engines)
turn clockwise when viewed from front
and are therefore "left handed" when viewed
from the rear. If the transmission is not counter-rotating (like some starboard mounted engines tiwn installations), then you would have a normal, left-handed prop.
Some foreign diesels (British, for instance) turn counter-clockwise when viewed from the front, so they drive right-handed props. I don't know what type engine you have in your boat, or if your transmission is perhaps reversed for some reason.

Doggie - WELCOME you old Texas cattle dog you! We have lots of fun here and even though you're currently "Shamrock Challenged" I'm sure Gavin will make an exception for a person of your exaulted stature! And besides, that trawler of yours could be considered a "Shammie Cousin," sort of. Just don't talk about that OMC 70hp coffe-grinder on your other boat! Post often. regards, Leprechaun

Engine rotation in marine gas engines is always viewed from the flywheel end. This means looking over the engine with the flywheel in your belly. Left hand means the flywheel turns in a counterclockwise direction and right hand it will turn clockwise.
The easiest way to figure rotation is to start the engine. If it won't then look at the raw water pump. Water will take the longest route around the pump. Find the suction hose and follow the longest route to the discharge hose and there is your rotation. The longest route generally means going opposite from the cam screw to get to the discharge.
Hope this makes sense.
