Thanks Leprechaun, engineman for the information concerning my repowering question-although it was not what I wanted to hear.I have two follow up questions-1)What are any other 26' owners achieving on their performance?- mine seems to be slower than cited literature,2)Are there any significant differences in hull design between the newer 8' beam shamrocks and my 1987 model?-the newer model performance specs are impressive.Thanking you in advance for your help

Group - go here - actually about 12 threads down the board.

its my response to Capt Dog (I think) about FloScan performance details for my boat and I think its fairly representative for a heavily loaded late '80s 26x8' boat. No idea what the new 26x8 boats get, I was under the impression that Shamrock retired this hull and went to a 26x8'6" hull which is a tad slower but a MUCH better sea-boat. Rgds, Leprechaun

Group,
I have a 90 Mack w/351, I dont get anywhere near the speed that is quoted on this board.. My top end has never exceed 26mph(not knots).. and I cruise at around 19 when my hull/prop/shaft/tabs are.. spotless. If anyone reading this has any ideas please bring them on. thanks Roger C.

Have you tried running the boat with the tabs set high to keep the bow low? I find my boat runs fastest in a "semi-displacement"-type posture. I've found that running the boat in a bow-high plane, like a typical outboard will yield numbers like you quote. Of course this goes out the window when coming home thru the inlet with a big following sea. Then it seems I can't get the bow high enough! Barring any mechanical problems, like out of tune or maybe a tired engine, you might look into the prop. Oh yea - remember - my rig has a canvas top with an aluminum radar arch - way lighter than your full glass-housed Mack. Your numbers seem comparable to the new 26 Express w/PCM-Chevy 350 we worked on last year. So maybe there's nothing wrong with your rig. Dunno. Leprechaun

My 26' '88 hardtop clocked by GPS at 32mph with new plugs, spark wires, clean bottom, just me aboard. Engine has 515 honest hours. Have not checked prop but assume ity is the original. Hope this helps.
