Ive got a problem with the valve I installed for the raw water intake on my raw water washdown system. It seems to last about a season or so then poof it takes a poop. Its located very close to the transom..I think that the vibration from back there causes the valves to get loose and after a season it no longer operates. Does anyone have an answer to this???? Ive tried ball valves and gate valves

You did not specify which Shammy you own, but mine is a 220 WA. My raw water washdown intake is shared with the livebait well. It uses a "T" to divert to the washdown. If you have alivebait well this is a good solution for two reason. The best reason is fewer holes in the bottom and the second is the factory has already selected a very good placement for the intake.
Unfortunately this news is probably too late for you since you have already had several of these installed. The placement of my intake is 12 inches away from the raw water cooling intake, well forward of the turbulent prop water. Regardless of where you put this you must always use a "Ball Valve" for this intake. Gates do not have fail safe qualities that you will need. Also, ball valves can visably be inspect for position. I make a habit of closing all valves before leaving my boat after each trip. I do not use shore power and even if I did bilge pumps fail everyday. The ball valve closed limits you to one weak link rather than all of the hoses and fitings behind the valve.

I will post in the TIPS forum a solution for emergency water removal. This can be useful to you while refiting valves.
