I have a 1991 Preadator and recently discovered water leaking in under the rudder packing plate (shaft log). I hauled the boat and found there was no sealant under the plate. Resealed and installed with 5200 (yes it is permament!). I noticed the hull core material around the fitting was open to the water below with no sealant.
Is this normal? Should there be a sealant installed around the hull side of this fitting?

RP - what hull "Core" are you referring to? The hull is solid glass down there. If you're concerned, a coating of 5200 on the glass itself wouldn't hurt, I guess.Rgds, Leprechaun

It may have been wet dirty fiberglass! After scrapping and cleaning it I thought it was wood since it was brown! Are you saying the entire built up area from the propeller shaft log back to the transom is solid glass?
