Get a stronger gel type in the same size box you have now. You will be happier on many fronts.

I just re-batteried this past Summer. Regardless of what brand I've used, with the electronics I leave on during fishing trips I only get 2 seasons or so out of them. This time I went to West Marine & bought the highest MCCA pure starting battery they carry in a group 24 and I put the biggest G24 pure deep-cyle on the accessory side. We'll see how long these last. I think this year I'll use my on-board Guest charger a little more than years past to keep them topped up.
The Gel cells are good , but real expensive, about 70% more and I'm not convinced I'll see 70% more life out of them. Particularly in the miserable little Group 24 size we have to live with if we keep 'em in their stock location. Plus the gels (as well as the newer AGM-type batteries) MUST be charged at no more than 14.1V or they heat up and radically lose their bounce-back ability. So this is a big concern with the crummy rebuilt alternators that are typically available. Not to mention the cheap-ass Chinese voltage regulators that most rebuilders use. Got to be real careful about charging voltage with Gels, one more thing I would have to watch. K.I.S.S. is my life. At least on the water. Rgds, Leprechaun
