HAVE A BORG-WARNER 1.5:1 TRANSMISSION WITH COOLER. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE OIL DRAIN PLUG. THE MANUAL I HAVE SHOWS A PICTURE THAT IS MUCH TO DARK TO READ EASILY.
CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A HINT AS TO WHERE TO LOOK. MY COOLER IS ON THE PORT SIDE. THE DIPSTICK HAS THE 'T' HANDLE AND IS ALSO ON THE PORT SIDE.

Mel - Not sure where the drain plug is. It may not even be accessible. I heard that changing the tranny fluid is often done like the oil and you pump it out threw the dipstick. Hope this helps.

Mike on the P.E. is correct. Draw it out from the dipstick hole via your usual engine oil evacuation pump. Just make sure you have the draining tube as deep in the transmission as possible. I think the manual tells us to crack one of the heat exchanger lines to drain the box. Can you imagine the mess that would create in the bilge? Anyway, you should be able get out around 2.5-3.5 qts, depending on how long your hoses are to the trans heat exchanger. Do it once per year and that box will live forever. Rgds, Leprechaun

I did manage to draw a little over 2 quarts of oil via the dipstick hole. I have decided to change the oil hoses to the cooler, they are 15 years old. I'll see how much more oil I get when I remove the return hose from the transmission housing.
