I have a 1989 22 predator with single exhaust. I am changing my groco strainer with a perko. The instructions for the perko say to fasten it to the bulkhead. My exhaust is in the way. Is it critical to fasten this type strainer to prevent vibration? Any help would be appreciated.

Always a good idea to mount engine gear. When picking a spot for the strainer be sure it is below the water line. This will help prevent the system from running dry.
