Prop makes a difference (232 hits)

I just want to thank Tim of EnginesOne and Doug of Ski Boats Unlimited for helping me out. Seems my boat was delivered with the wrong (or modified) prop.
I was not completely happy with the performance of my 1999 246 WAC. Everything seemed fine except that I had a lousy hole shot and was burning more fuel than I should have. Tim suggested a mechanic to check out the engine, and I decided to have the prop checked as well. Turns out I was turning a 16x19 rather than the 16x17 that is recommended (and that everyone else uses for this engine/boat combo).
SHAMROCK swears the boat shipped with the right prop, and would not pay for replacement or re-pitching. Doug at Ski Boats Unlimited immediately chose to pay for re-pitching the prop, even though they were not at fault. Now that is service.
Anyway, the boat rides much better; hole shot is there now, and according to my floscan, I gained close to twenty percent, yes twenty percent efficiency at cruise.
Thanx again, Tim and Doug.

Stan - What's your WOT now? My 2000 - 246 has a 16x16 prop that I want to tweak to get more mid-range speed (say 16x17). I have the TBI engine. Thanks in advance for the info.

Mike:
I wasn't able to check. When I opened her up, I had steering problems, and discovered that I was low on steering fluid. By the time I got back to the dock it was too windy to go back out and check.
I intend to do a full power trial this weekend. I will let you know the results.
My engine is carb'd
