I brought a 1992 22 ft Warrior and am having the bottom sand blasted to remove all the old built up paint. I found a hairline crack in the gel coat running the length on the keel. Is this a major problem, I plan on cleaning it up real good and applying a layer of 2" wide fibreglass cloth over it to keep out any water. I alo found a good size crack running up the shaft support from the keel to the bottom and plan of filling it with marine tex than glassing over it. Does this sound like it should work ?

Fish Hunter - You know these boats had the hulls laid up in halves. That line is where the halves were joined. I know folks have reported the hairline crack down the transom but I have not heard of the crack down the hull. But with a lot of bottoms painted who would ever notice? I doubt this represents any problem whatsoever. I believe you would be wasting your time and money to put a piece of fiberglass tape down the seam; it will just crack along the centerline over time. I would not attempt to close the crack with epoxy; it will just crack open like the tape. You might want to brush some epoxy along that line after cleaning the mold wax off to protect the exposed opening from the water. Other than that, I would not worry with it.
