Last weekend John and I took the Shammie down to the kelp beds just north of Oceanside. We had the usual slow pick on Calico Bass and Barracuda going. Then John got picked up by something big. It pulled on his thirty pound set up like a tractor, slow and straight. John's reel was getting low on line, so I offered to pull the anchor and follow the fish. Here's a few pics of Johnny D. pulling back,

We thought it was going to be a bat ray, but we were surprised to find a large Black Sea Bass on the end of the line. These pics don't do the fish justice, he was easily 90 pounds.

The Black Sea Bass was revived and took off or the bottom with an amazing kicking of his tail that got John and I quite wet.
After that we decided to troll back to the harbor. I tried to take a nap on the bow and let John drive. I said I wanted to be awakened by a screaming reel. John only let me sleep for few minutes when he got my new Tiagra reel to scream. Here's a pic of me pulling on a Thresher Shark.

The thresher went about 80 pounds.
All in all it was a good day on the water with a few fish caught.
