I was invited to participate in the Davis Tuna Tournament out of Encinada last weekend. We caught lots of small yellowfin and yellowtail but didn't find the big ones.

The boat I fished on was a Davis Cortez 22. It is very similar to my 219WAC in size and features but very different in sea keeping characteristics. Suffice to say, I really liked my Shammy before, I love it now. The weather and sea conditions were typical central coast, sloppy. There was an obvious difference in ride quality when running into head seas. We got pounded for 5 days.

For you SoCal guys, We got most of the yellowfin running with a big school of spinners. We fished the 220/238 banks area where we found a 3 degree temp break in half a mile. The big fish where caught on the Mushroom bank (30lb + albies) and Airplane. We found some big dorados on paddies but couldn't seem to keep them on.
