jcarvour,

I sure wish I could have joined you on that trip! :D I got a slip for the weekend at the Dana Inn in Mission Bay and fished La Jolla with about 50 other boats. Thank goodness they opened up the rockfish, otherwise it would pretty slim pickins.

It doesn't get much better than being able to go fishing and catching some tasty critters for dinner and cooking them up on the spot on your own boat. What a great adventure!

Nice report, nice pictures, and what a great weekend to go boating! Keep those inspiring reports coming.

What model Shammrock are you running?

Must be teribble to be someplace where you can actually go out on your boat in Marck and enjoy it .

Hey Jason,

I'm always up for buddy boating. I see you like to surf. Wouldnt it be a blast to surf San Clemente on a big South Swell. I've seen pictures of the break but I'm not sure where it is?

Hey DBM, I'm running a 246WA. When does your season start out there? Looks like its warmed up quit a bit lately from that bitter cold stuff.

Hey, a surf trip to SC Island sounds like a good idea. A Navy Medic, who trained with the SEALS at SC Island, showed me some photos of a good left-hand break there (it looked pretty hollow). Todos Santos has become a big zoo in recent years.

I'm up for the trip....

Hey JCarvour,

Nice pics! And nice bug! I'm gonna try to make it to SCI this weekend
and pick up a few bugs before the season ends. I hope you didn't catch the last legal one!
Any sign of WSB? Word has it they're starting to bite in Pyramid.

I'm interested in knowing where you guys would go surfing at SCI. I've seen some humongous waves off China Point during a south swell, but can't figure where would be surfable. Oh, heck, just keep going out to the Cortez Bank and do some REAL surfing!

I paddled and surfed yesterday in Laguna - wave of the day was a 2 footer, but you won't hear me complaining. What a great weekend!

I'm going off the East End of Catalina tomorrow for rockfish. Lingcod in particular. Hope the weather holds.

Cheers,

Ali

That's a great idea just thinking about it!

A bunch of Shamrock's arriving at the island with fishing rods and surfboards. Tuna and Dorado in the morning followed up with some lined-up lefts in the afternoon. And to top the day off, grill some fresh fish tacos, and wash em down with a couple of ice cold bottles of Sierra Nevada. :D

How far is it from Catalina to SCI? I have often thought about going to Catalina first and topping off the tanks, and then heading over to SCI, but I haven't actually considered doing so until now.

If the tuna don't come on the inside this year, I'll need to figure something out. I really don't want to deal with customs every time I want to catch some tuna.

I'd be willing to settle for a WSB right now though. I would really enjoy buddy-boating over with some of you that have been there before. Let's go! 8)

Its a good sign that none of us as actually surfed this mythical spot. That means we will probably be surfing it in solitude. PRIMO. :D

AJ - there were plenty of bugs and they were on a major crawl. One pull netted six lobsters. I most have been over the rookery as none were legal. Just two out of twenty or so were barely legal. I ate one and brought one home. They were taste  I used mackeral caught previosly that were left to "rippen" a little as the bait. It seems like a little stench puts them on the crawl. Good luck at Catalina. I didnt hear of any radio fish {white sea bass} but that could break open at any time.

Good Luck!

Pyramid Cove Point (terrible photos here, but I believe the photo that the Navy medic showed me was this spot, a 10+ wave barreling):

Terminals (fun looking right!):

A friend of mine has been trying to get me out there (on my boat, of course). I think it's worth a look. Think about it.......

Yellowtail and perfect rights in one day!!

Nice research Damon!

I see another project ahead of me, surfboard racks for my 219.
I can hear my wife right now, "you are going surfing where"?

Does the Navy allow longboards?

Cool pics Damon!

I had no idea there were such good breaks at Clemente. Now we have a Plan B when the fishing sucks!

Speaking of fishing, I tried a new spot for rock fish off the East End of Catalina today. Got two big Boccacio, some vermillion rockfish, and one big lingcod. Not a great day, but at least I get to eat some fresh fish for dinner tomorrow. Didn't see anyone fishing the backside of Catalina.
WSB must not be happening yet there. The calico were chewing, though, and I caught and released a few nice ones. Overall, a beautiful day on the water. Water temp was 61 degrees mid channel. Spring is on the way.

The Navy bombing at Clemente was intense today. I've never heard and felt such loud concussions before. And we were 20 miles away! I guess no one was fishing Pyramid today.

Coolest part of the day was all the porpoise. I put the boat on auto pilot and took a few pics off the bow underway. I wish the kids had been on board to see this...

Cheers,

All of the marine life you can see in one day is just amazing. That's one of the coolest things about going offshore.

I have a pic almost identical to that one Ali. Sounds like you had a great day. Good job! :D
