A buddy and I got a bit of a late start Sat. morning. Put the lines in at 9:15 and picked up a 39" Striper 20 minutes later. After that it was very slow. The 2nd and last fish (36") came around noon. Spent the next few hours scouting around for marks on the finder to prep for an upcomming tournament. Didn't see much at all. From the sounds of things, the earlier the better.

I'm glad to hear you didn't get skunked!

Which shamrock are you fishing? And how slow were you trolling?

I have a 20' 351 that I can barely keep at 3-4 knts. I haven't been out yet this year but last year didn't have a whole lot of luck.

Fair seas,

DBM,

I have a 246WA with 350/300HP. I typically troll with my speed anywhere from 2.7 to 3.2 MPH (GPS). I'd think that you'd be able to do OK at 3Kts but 4Kts might be a little fast. I usually pull a large Tony spoon this time of the year and this is a pretty good indicator of the proper speed. With the Tony on a medium rod you can see the rod 'pump' at smooth, steady cadence with the spoon moving back-and-forth.
