Fished Flynn's Knoll and Romer Shoal on Sat am. Anchored by 6:45 am with tide coming in. Used clams on fishfinder rigs and slow chummed clams. We caught two nice slot stripers in 15 mins (26"/7.5 lbs.) at Flynn's. Nothing for next hour so moved to Romer. Same approach and nothing for next 1.5 hrs. No one else seemed to be catching either.
Any advice on whether tide direction or time of day or other were bad choices is very welcome.

I'm answering under the "Guest" name because this site keeps messing me up aka, Fishhunter.
Try the high slack tide, or two hours before high tide untill two hours after, this generally works best. I've caught stripers at all tides in Barnegat Inlet and the Sedge Island area but I favor the high tide to out going
Good Luck

O.K. Black Pooch - I'm gonna hook you up.
The next time you go to Roamer or Flynn's and you spend more than 15 minutes looking at the other boats looking at you and neither one of you is catchin' anything - up anchor and run across the Bight to Riis Park in 30' of water and look around for the fish piled high off the bottom.
I had Billy/No Tacks and another bass-fishing' nut-job, Kodfish Kenny on the boat last Sun and we had between 50 and 60 bass by 10:30 in the morning.
When heading to the NE from Roamer - look for the Twin Peaks of the Marine Pkwy Bridge behind the Barrier Beach and find some good bottom between it and the Riis Pavilion.
Anchor, use clam bellies for chum and on the hook and hang on for dear life.
That fishing should hold up for at least another month . . .
If you get the fishies - post up that you own me a nice cold Corona.

Hi Black Dog:
Been out there a least two times a week. I have been fishing the last two hours of daylight. Anywhere between Romer Shoal, and about 300 yards before the Earl Channel is good. We have been limiting out every time we go for the last two weeks. Clams on the hook, and break the shells over the side, tide does not seem to be a factor right now with them, when that sun starts to set the switch is turn on. Good luck, give me a shout on 68 or 69 boat name is PAPI'
