Default Monster Tog!

I had a call from my nieghbor on Sunday asking if I wanted to go togging on monday, of course I said yes! We departed Salt Ponds in Hampton Virginia aboard Barclay's 28 True World Marine at about 0630. It was Myself, Barclay Shepard, Capt. Chandlar Hogg and Tim Capoldo. It was the nicest day I have seen in months, flat and glassy and not a cloud in the sky. We headed straight to the Triangle Wrecks, which is is 50 miles from Hampton or about 35 miles offshore of the coast. Water temp in the Chesapeake Bay was 43 degrees but the offshore water temps at the wrecks were a frigid 39 degrees. It did not matter because we found some nice togs, we caught 12 fish out out of 16 fish limit.
Barclay caught his biggest fish ever at 15 pounds 8 ounces, it was 29 inches long. ( 9 lbs is a Virginia citation).
This was the largest I have seen in person and it was a thrill to see him catch it.
It was not a fast and furious day, we made several moves over a couple wrecks but picked our way through to a nice cooler full of fish. We were using fresh clams and salted down crab from last year for bait. It was a great day with great company.

Great day, Awesome fish, nice boat, what more could you ask for? Love the teeth on the tog, reminds me of a pic that I got from somewhere, maybe here.

Love the pics, keep them coming.

Thumbs up

Brian...

What a haul! That ought to get Leprechaun going when he sees this thread.

Mike...

What you did to those poor Vizslas is as bad as the pic I used to have as my avatar (I liked that movie, BTW).

I'm sending it off to my daughter. She's the founder and CEO of SPCV (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Vizslas - also has three of her own)... You'll be hearing from their attorney!

I didn't do that. I am merely a connoisseur of fine art (As he looks around for the imminent bolt of lightning).
It looks to me as if the artist (More looking) used the same dog three times, and superimposed them all. I think that I prefer Brian's pics.

A slight hijack here but I just had to post the three I mentioned above...

On the right: Mother of the one on the left
On the left: Mother of the galumphus in the middle
In the middle: Plain insanity in a 55# - 60# body (kinda reminds me of the one on the left in Mike's pic)

Now, back to "feesh!"

Very impressive haul. By far one of the most challenging fish to get on deck, those teeth make for good bait stealing

Beautiful fish, and a lovely day to fish 'em. Can't ask much more than that.

Here's a pic of an 11lb6oz fish taken on the last day of our season and the last trip of the year for the Lep. 110' of water off Jersey. Its my crewman Brian's personal best. He looks purty darn happy, don't he?

And one of me the weekend before on a rough and tough day offshore. took four tries to get the boat to lay correctly over the wreck on a nasty wind against tide day. The pitts for this kind of fishing, two anchors or not. But we hung in there and absolutely hammered them that particular trip, maybe 50 fish for the two of us. This one was 8lb10oz. Do I look tired? You betcha, just beaten to hell by the weather, ocean and fish. Leave in the dark, come home in the dark - that's all part of late season fishing on my boat.
