Over run by fish?

I have lived in Florida over 50 years and have seen the fish stocks depleted quit a bit since I was young. I don't see that limiting some species would kill anybody, and it sure would be nice to have some fish around for my kids to catch.

"I don't see that limiting some species would kill anybody"
Nor do I if all that was done was limit the catch for the time it would take for the stock to rebound. A total ban is what is wrong because there's no science that supports the need. The stated goal of the loons is a total ban so we mean fishermen won't hurt the little fishies. And the loons have the ear of OB apparently.

Yahoo news headline "Fishermen’s fear: Public's 'right to fish' shifting under Obama?" It looks like the U.N. takes precedence over our own sovereignty. This has always been a complaint of mine with the progressive movement.

Question

Everyone seems to be ignoring another possible motive. Obviously BO wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Does anyone believe he wouldn't LOVE to end ALL recreational use of fuel?
How much of recreational boating involves fishing? Think how much CO2 reduction he'd achieve if boating were drastically reduced/eliminated? It's easy to connect a few dots.

Don't worry, because even if we catch every fish in the ocean, Al Gore can always invent The Environment again!

The very first spot I fished in the ocean over 35 years ago is now closed to all fishing.. Back then I was allowed 25 bottom fish from that area as well as the entire coast of Oregon. Now it is down to 6 fish, where it is still open, and only for a very limited time of the year...

Over 95% of the Oregon coastal waters are now shut down to bottom fishing most of the year, which includes the best weather summer months. This large area does open during the winter when it is only safe to fish a very few days due to our dangerous winter waters.. Now the administration is bowing to anti special interest groups whose goal it is to close the remaining 5% forever..

The USA has the most restrictive fishing regulations now in place in the world. With the enforcement to back up the regulations. Due to the past regulations, many marine species are now showing a healthy increase in populations and rebounding nicely. There are areas of the world that need to be shut down to fishing. However, the USA is no longer one of them..

Many of us sport and commercial fishermen have supported the closing of areas as well as the reducing of harvest to help conserve our marine resources. The actions of the current administration have nothing to do with conservation. This is about shutting down and taking total control of an industry.

I have to wonder how far the commercial fishing block will go to achieve there agenda.. Like “infiltrating” sites like this to spread there lies and drum up support?
We don't need people of a different stripe to drum up support. We can flounder around or croak on our own. I'm actually kinda perched on the fence, and feeling blue about it.

WOW - A new conspiracy - what a leap seatux. I'm agast! <---these never work for me...

I support fishing restrictions when needed - humans will devastate any stock that is left unprotected. I have seen it happen in my home waters of the Chesapeake bay. I don't object to data collection and analysis, but it has to be done objectively - no politics of the day. And no politically motivated slight of hand administrative undermining of citizens rights - we already pay to fish. That and $1.50 will buy you a cup of coffee.

Tyeye52, this is no "brainless rumor" based on "gullibility" No where in the article does it say obama was moving to issue an executive order to ban rec. fishing. The examiner article added that. The tagline for espn said it all :"The Obama administration has ended public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing some of the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters."

IOW, the powers that be do not want a public debate on the issue of catch limits and other regulations. All we as recreational fishermen want is our voices heard along with the commercial industry, and the (some would say biased) scientists in the dept of interior. Should legislation or executive orders be issued without consulting everyone with vested interest in the issue? Living on Long Island, I am used to the fluke catch being reduced every year thanks to the Magnuson-Stevens fisheries act. But considering there is no consensus as to the law's efficacy...should we just keep piling on restrictions or open the whole fisheries game to non-biased third party study? Closing the debate seems unnecessary and contrary to the american tradition of open debate and compromise.
