Well Jon,
Warren Buffet and T Boone Pickens are investing in the US. I know their just a flash in the pan and all those years of success were just luck.
If you believe those 2 invest only in the US, I have some land to sell you about 10 miles east of my house in Key Largo. And Buffet took a $10,000,000,000.00 hit when the economy collapsed. He's done very well but he's not infallible. He was just a bottom feeder when he bought GE stock in the midst of public outrage at GE selling goods to Iran.
Buffet also still loves BO for the money sent his way through GE (who got $140,000,000,000.00 through TARP!!!!), just like Immelt.
Pickens can't afford to pay for all the windmills he ordered thinking BO would buy them all. Turns out the "stimulus" money being spent on windmills is going 80% to China for jobs there. Feel stimulated?
Those 2 are NOT your friends, but you may be right to invest in what they invest in because the fix is in... for THEM.
And Grreatdog, who has always shown some restraint, is now lapsing into the great liberal defense; when you have NO FACTS to defend your opinion, attack the opposition personally. Shame.

This whole thread started out about fishery closures...

I know, I know, "Don't read it if you don't like it..." But I can't resist! It even sucked me in a few posts ago.

Where's Rubberta's resilient touch when you need it!?
Kurt, put down the mouse and slowly back away...

Same here.......I live about 3 miles from the fishing port of Point Judith. At one time the second largest fishing port in dollars in New England. With a population of 18,000 in town, it has a big affect on the local economy. While they haven't been shut down, they would probably be better off.

Slowly but surely the population is drifting towards a retirement age. While overall population has been about the same for the last 20 years, housing prices coupled with an evaporating fleet has not fostered a growing family enviornment. The number of students in the school sytem has been on a decline.

Last month, the woman who owned the local commercial marine supply house gave the store to her landlord. She has beeen in buisness for 30 years. A friend of mine owns a gas station and is struggling. If he wasn't such a good mechanic and offer field service to the fleet, he would have been done a long time ago. Kinda ironic since he wanted to get out of fishing when he bought the station 10 years ago.

I don't remember the exact figure, but for every dollar that comes "out of the hatch" (or off a hook), it gets multiplied by over 5 by the time it reaches the consumer.

Pedlyr
No unemployment and no help from the government for any of these guys. All self employed. All the resturants and every store on the waterfront in Sneeds Ferry are closed. 1/2 of Beaufort and Morehead City closed. Kind of hard for me to swallow. People who never asked for anything and took care of themselves, now are helpless. All they want is to be allowed to work. Worst part is , they work the water, they know how many fish are there. They know it is BS. It really gets to me.

I don't drink the hard stuff often, but when I do that is my choice. Sorry for the cheap shot earlier.

I have literally imbibed more JD since BO has been elected than I had in my previous 58 years combined. I have to apologize for hijacking this thread with my hysterical rants.
I wish I could claim I was PWI, but I never drink @ work and I don't (under the admiral's EXPLICIT orders) have internet @ home.
Believe it or not, prior to 2 years ago, you would have a hard time finding a more laid back, easy going bloke than me. For real!
I see that opinions vary, but I honestly believe the policies undertaken by our current leaders will undermine the very foundations of our society and lead to bankruptcy for us all. It's been done too many times by others who ALL thought THEY could pull it off, too.
