Got started out of town late but was able to stop by Shalimar Yacht Basin, looks like a nice place but I did not see the ammenities I was looking for seeing that I am staying on my boat. Will continue to look. I may stay there just going to see what else is out there. Did not have time to stop so I am not sure of price yet. Will keep ya posted.

Yeah I have been on that forum as it is the local one here. I had to many disaggreeance with people on there. I am going to ride over there in the boat if we get a nice day in the near future. I have figured slip fees for transient are going to run 30-50 bucks a night. Baytown Wharf was at about 2.50 a foot per night but the ammenities are awsome. Still doing the homework and will keep you guys up to date. Any ideas on activities would be great. I know of several restauraunts on the water there to get lunch or dinner.
As far as blue water out of destin FoxHole it is out of a 1 day fishing range 75% of the time. The gulf has a very shallow slope in that area. You start deep and it takes a long time to get in over a 100 feet of water. Like 15 to 20 miles typically.

Anybody know of a place to store the boat or the camper around Niceville for about 2 weeks? It is looking like I may have to make two trips if I want to bring the boat.

Fox,
You guys may want to check out this link, I seem to remember a boat yard right by the highway bridge at Cinco Bayou on the way to Niceville. Anyway here is a pretty good idea of everything in the area: http://fishingdestinguide.com/BOATRAMPS.html Bryan |

Haven't kept up with this thread like I should have...trying to catch up.
I might be able to help on some things.......... Fox - It's in Destin, not Niceville but you could park your boat/trailer in my drive for a couple weeks if it would help. There's no fencing/security so you'd be taking your chances re security. As the economy has gone down, crimes like theft have gone up in lots of places, Destin included. Just a few years ago the thought of security wouldn't have crossed my mind, but times they are a changing. Anyway, let me know. If you really need to use Niceville or fencing for security is important, there are a couple of boat storage places just west of White Point Road (Mid-bay Bridge Rd) on Rt 20 at the east end of Niceville. Don't know the names but by the looks of things last time I passed by, there is plenty of space (business looks down but they do have fencing). You might be able to find them on a Google search but they seem prelly low key...might not show up. They probably have photos of the roadside on Google Earth...might get their names that way. Loaded - Can't offer much in the way of amenities, but if you are just looking for a place to tie up for an overnight, I have space along the dock that would work. If more than one might want to tie up overnight, I could see if we could slide one or two more down the dock in front of the neighors. It's on a sheltered canal, so traffic, tides and the like wouldn't be much of a concern. Let me know. Fishing out of Destin - Pretty much the normal northern Gulf fare....the run of cobia will likely be gone by then but some hang out around structure for some time....kings should be a common target by then, with slow trolled live (or even frozen) baits the common approach, although downriggers can take some real keepers, and even anchoring up with chum and free-lining live baits works well.....bottom fishing artificial reefs, wrecks, and live bottom will get red snapper, grouper, triggers and if there is decent vertical relief, AJs.... the keep-laws are loco but so far catching isn't throttled.... The kings start just outside the pass and there are plenty of public numbers within 15-20 miles of the pass for bottom fishing in 60-120'. We don't have the built structure there is to the west with all the rigs, but fishing can be pretty good non-the-less. If you are more adventuresome and the weather gods cooperate, running to the Edge (25+ miles) is done all the time by small boats. Lots of competition out there on good days but also lots of good natural structure for all sorts of near shore and off shore species.

When I was talking ammenities I was talking about showers and bathrooms. I plan on sleeping on the old girl since I do not mind camping. I am probably not going to have my vehicle as the wife is probably not going to go. I am going to have my Big Green Egg so I would not need to go out for food.

Time to wake up this old thread. Have we made any progress here. I still need to get off my azz and find a camp ground. As it stands for me I am going to have to make two trips to get the boat and camper there. I am not sure I am going to do that or not. That is alot of driving.
Loaded with you out of town and possibly tied up. I could make a few calls if you like. Just not sure who to call about a meeting place. Roll call, Roll Call, speak up & fall in!!!! ![]()
